View Full Version : Welsh D in M&M class

I was hoping someone could clear this up for me, I am doing my first ridden season with my 4 year old Welsh D he stands at 14/14.1hh at the moment. We have a lesson every week and my instructor was telling me of a 14.2 welsh D going into the large M&M class(the one i was planning to do) and the judge told the ridier that the pony should be in the small M&M Class, the following show she went in the small class only to be asked to leave and go in the large class  so as you can see there seems to mixed opinions on this. My feeling is that the Large would be the correct class (as a D is a large breed) and the D is the only M&M to have no upper height limit and that a lot of the ponies would be a simler height to Axel but now i am not so sure after hearing this. Any guidence would be great :)

Your right, the large class is for any size D, and section C's for that matter!

Ditto above and you are correct, D is classed as a large breeds so must be in the larger class.

Definately large - most schedules do outline what breeds they consider large to avoid confusion - though I was once at a show where the same pony entered in large and small!

sections C and D are 'large' breeds, it's A's and B's who come under the small category :) i don't know why a judge would have sent a D to the small M&M class, i wouldn't be overly confident in their ability to asses my pony if they couldn't even recognise it as a D!!

I had the same experience, when I started showing my welshy I went into the small class as he is only 14HH and I thought the large class was for the bigger native breeds (over 14.2HH)
The judge didnt say anythin about me being in the wrong class. Shows how much they know.
Thanks god some one told me :)

The only registered natives over 14.2 are Section D's so small breeds are considered sheltlands, darties, section A & B, & exmoors everything else is large breeds.

Pity the judge didnt know that at the time :)
I know better now :)
Has anyone also seen Arabs in M&M classes, I know they should not be allowed in as they are not native to the UK but do you think I should inform the judge next time?

arabs shouldnt be in M&M classes but the judge should know this.
if they dont dont make a point but if they win then talk to the show secratary and judge- make your point dont get 'snotty' (im not saying you would/will but emotions run high at shows, speaking from experience) about it just point out that they arent eligable for the class, and that they shouldnt have been placed.
