for a 12hh yearling appy x welsh mp dun colt in IH youngstock, pbw local classes? Usually at home he is a complete dope on a rope (but hasn't developed the Kevins yet so will not be gelded until the autumn).

I have the option of:
White webbing halter
Bridle with bit
Bridle without bit

I don't want him wearing a bit just yet if possible for any length of time and certainly not for leading in. But at the same time I don't want to be marked down for not being correct.

I showed an appy x NF yearling filly in a filly slip with no bit. That was perfectly ok for app and coloured classes. I'm not too sure about part bred welsh (if you're doing that) as welsh are often shown in white rope halters. I'm sure someone will know about that though!

Part bred welshes are shown as hunter ponies or riding ponies (plaited, trimmed etc), so a leather bridle is correct. It's up to you if your yearling is bitted or not as a yearling, but usually as a 2yo will have to be bitted for safety if he's still entire.

thanks :)

It's been such a long time since I've had to plait and trim anything non-native, it'll make a nice change :)
