well if transport allows me im hoping to get to a few ridden shows this year.
i was wondering what do they look for apart from conformation of the horse

Depends on the class you are doing - trueness to type if showing as a rh/hack/hunter, correctness of breed in M&M classes.
Horses in good health and good condition, properly muscled.
Mannerly horses that don't need to be 'schooled' around the ring but rather give their riders a pleasant polite ride.
Clean and tidy turnout for both rider and horse - equipment in good condition and well cared for.

They also look for good self carriage of the horse and how balanced they are throughout the gaits and transitions.
