Hi Everyone

I have been off work for a week and only have access there so i missed this board.

Some may remember i have sold my baby to my friend and my rescue horse to a companion home and was in the market for a new horse that i could keep forever like it should be,

Well i have now bought a 14.2 dales/cob mare she is 11 and i love her to pieces already (i ve had her 4 days) I cant wait to put the fun back into my hobbie and carry on getting my confidence back (nearer the floor) and bond with my pony. I wish i had done this ages ago.

Some one stupid said i was to heavy for her but i thought she would be fine carrying me i am 5.6 ish and weigh 13.5ish stone i think thats okay what do all the normal people that acutally know what they are talking about say ...........

She sounds like a lovely pony. You are definately not too heavy for her considering the breed, so those people really are stupid. I have a pony too and he is great when he goes, but he is so loveable.

I have a 14.2 Dales pony called Sam. I'm 5 feet 9 inches tall and weight about 10 stones.

The breed standard for Dales ponies says that they used to carry the lead from the mines (up to 17 stones) for 200 miles each week. A pony of this type can easily carry someone much heavier than you so you've no need to worry!

I went pony trekking with the Dales pony trekking centre at Malham last year. Some of their ponies are a lot smaller than Sam and carry men out trekking for a full day without any problems.

Ignore the nasty comments - they're only jealoous you've got a Dales.

Congrats! Take no notice of what people say. We used to have a Dales cross at the stables where I worked, she was 13.3hh and used to do endurance with her 14 stone owner no hassle!

if more people rode ponies they would not be off horsed my daughter rides a highland at all the riding club things he is 13.3 she is 26 and she ignores everyone and wins stuff no one really notices now and she goes in the lessons with me on my horse, he keeps up and does everything his nickname in the club is pp (perfect pony.)

on your pony purchase, she sounds lovely. I hope you hava a lot of fun together. I think 14.2 hands is a very versitile size that will suit a wide variety of people.

Go for it. I took my "pony" hunting yesterday and yes he suffered from an absence of leg length at one point but soon caught up and was going through the mud like a surefooted tank when some of the hunters were slipping. A dales will carry you all day and come back for more.
