My daughter is showing for the first time her part bred WElsh pony. She has a beautiful long mane and we were looking forward to showing it off. But now I've read that part bred ponies should be plaited!Does this mean that the mane will have to be pulled? oooh horror! Will it matter if its left long?

I dont do showing myself but I think you will get marked down if the mane isnt plaited in a class where it is expected.

Maybe do a running plait? That way there is no pulling required!:D

There was a piccy yesterday I think of someones running plait on here.

Thanks, Chicky! istill would like to have her mane loose though, if possible. Has anyone seen part bred ponies entered with loose manes?

So it doesn't specify M&M, Is it a local club show?

If it is I'd show her how you feel you want to.

Well I had practice doing a long plait and it looked quite nice! So the plan is, first class, ridden, have a loose mane, then, if she doesn't get placed, plait it for the next one!(in hand) (lol) compromise!THanks everyone for the inputx

you shouldn't really need to pull their mane if you use a cornwall plait

why not just plait for them all, you might not have time between classes, or the hair might be slippery if you have used conditioner to make it look nice when its flowing.

I think if you are going to plait at all for the show ring it needs to be conventional plaits. Running plaits are other variations are alright for dressage etc but showing is very traditional:rolleyes:
