Get as many of the ABRS riding and stable management certificates under your belt as you can. Take your BHS stable management and riding stages as soon as you can, these will stand you in good stead. Also look into the British Driving Society diplomas, they can be very useful too.

Should have added if you don't have any O levels or equivalents you will not be able to take the instructors exams, so stick with school and get the foundations settled.

I've got several BHS qualifications, and am an ABRS instructor.....Heather says I can teach Enlightened Equitation too, but I wouldn't call myself an official EE instructor as I havn't done the proper course......yet. By the way you'll need your riding and road safety test too.
I'm off soon to take some of my British Driving Society certificates of competence and road driving test. In the end I may make it to Light Harness Horse Instructor.
You can see what we get up to at www.thordale.co.uk and www.geocities.com/tonkii2000/horses

Not sure if this info is correct, but I heard somewhere that if you don't get the exams you need at first, you can do the instructors courses when you're 18.
Also, (I don't know where your from) but in most schools here in England there is a program on the computers called "Kudos" you can look up the job you want, and the program will tell you exactly what the job involves, the average amount of pay each year and what qualifications you need. (It also gives other info such as how many hours most people in the job work a week, and gives you information on other jobs on the same topic, which you might not have considered before.)
In Writtle (England) There is a college that specialises in Animal subjects (not veterinary surgeon I'm afraid:( ) You can do various equine courses there, such as physiotherapy for horses and equine sciences. I'm going to the next open evening, but I probably won't go there because I want to be a vet.
