A bit late notice im afraid- i have an in hand show tomorrow with a ciple of mine, but my section b always messes his tail and legs up travelling, im going to bandage it the full length i tihnk tomorrow, but for his legs, i only have short boot.
Does anyone know any good ways of avoiding them getting themsevles all messed up?
And without using shadmpoo, how to get it out quicxkly when you arrive? Ill be taking lots of chalk and baby oil and baby powder, and sprays and stuff, but doesnt anyone have any ideas- i wont have access to hot water for sponging it off.

Also, do you reckon he lookes fit and shiney enough? (tad late if he doesnt!)
Wow he does look funny in that picture, hes prettier in real life

When our lot are going to a show i tend to double their tails up and then bandage the half sized tail completely(does that make sense)! As for the legs i dont really have any advice other than put plenty of coat shine on legs so poo slides off:DI found that boots tend to hold poo in them so i bandage instead:rolleyes:
If mine do get poo stains on legs i dry it with a rough towel as soon as i arrive, leave it alone until just before ready to go in and then block out the dried stain, that works for me.I know what its like keeping a grey clean,we had a welsh a who was filthy when travelling:rolleyes:
Good luck for show, pony looks fine:)

we always use two tail bandages, on any colour tail, and bandage right to the bottom.

I use baby wipes, the thicker cloth ones. They are brilliant for removing last minute stains, then a bit of chalk and a quick brush over :D

Well, he was clean until he was loaded...
but we gave up on his tail in the end because he was getting so nervous and het up when he coulnt see his friend and with waiting around, that he just kept getting morw nad more poo over himself.
He was so naughty! But we came second in veteran class :D Qualified for the royal london, so im happy!
We doubles his tail up, but during the day there was no hope, but oh well..
Does anyone know of any feeds or supplements for nervous ponies? I swear he looks like he has lost so much weight from this morning, though it is probably just because he had allhis muscles up and so he suddenly went tired

we used to give tea (cold black, no sugar) to a stallion who got worked up when he was travelling. he would get white lathered and be run up and would lose condition after even 10 minutes on the wagon. he wasnt a bad loader etc and would run up the ramp, just stressed alot!

do you get him out when you arrive and walk him to settle him
and does he have a haynet and water from home.

Yep, we enterned, and then got him out, walked around a little , he's a quiet traveller, and he was happy to be tied up, an i kept him ovning when we were wiaint for our classes, ut he went in bonkers. I'll try the black tea, like just before or what?
But then waiting to go into a class, or in the line up he was so worried, he was acting like a stallion, apart from in veteran, he reared 3 times in one class, and then kicked out at the judge- who had liked him up to that point!
Im surprised we didnt get kciked out, im gonna try to take him to a few shows, because i would like to do the royal london with him, as it sounds like fun, but i cant have him behaving like that.
Its such a shame, my other ponies are so well behaved at shows!

we would give the tea before he went on the wagon and when he arrived (arrived super duper early at show and yard )
im not sure whether it worked well cos he would always have it and i never saw him without when he was travelled, and he was a bit mad anyway.

does he rear at home?
what were you showing him in? (bridle or halter)
does he kick out at other times? and if yes you should put a red ribbon in his tail so it warns people not to get too close (not that they should anyway)

hate it when that happens, and your stood there thinking well if you had been good, we would have won the stupid class...

Yeah, he never kicks at home, might raise a leg, but he takes a little whioe to settle.
and he never rears aty home, again its when he cant be with his mates, but when we take him to events on his own hes fine, unless hes left in a stable on his own with none to look at...then he rears.
I guess thats what you get for getting a pony straight out of a team.
you would tihnk at 19 he might have settled down...

oh and i showed him in an in hand vridle with a rubber straight bar snaffle, i wasnt sure if i would be allowed to use my liverpool wiith an in hand bridle and not a driving bridle, because of the curb chain and everything, he completly ignores snaffles though.
And there were a few people giving their ponies a slap for misbehaving, but you cant really do that in the show ring, which is a pain because he'l think he can gret away with it...

Keeping them clean. I agree with the bandages not boots, and have you tried the tail guards with bags attached? they work wonders for white tails, I have one for Fern as her tail is always brown after she been in the lorry in a tail bandage. And as fro the tops of the legs showshine to make it slip off and chalk when you get there, although I find cold water on the stain then put salt on, picks the stain right off, just be sure to sponge all the salt off after :)

I did coat him in show shine, no lluck, and we didnt have any bangages yet, we just have equilibrium boots at the moment which are really nice, short though.
We did get him a tail bag, which was meant to be one size fits all, but the bit where you do it up is longer than hisdock and the bag trails along the floor and its foot baggy too :o

I hear some people wrap their greys up in clingfilm?!? Ive emailed his old owner asking what she did- as she has a team of greys who some how manage to look amazingly turned out, and i belive she didnt believe in boots or anything like that....
Salt sounds like a good idea, the guy transporting us had a little water pump, so we could spray his legs, but then it was raining so they woudnt dry anyways, and the charlk and such didnt sem to do much.
Im beginning to think clingfilming may be the way forward...

Hmm, can't say I've ever tried clingfilm but then, I've not taken Fern to a show, just a pony club flatwork rally so I wasn't all too bothered about keeping her clean :)

Do they have pony club in Shetland? Is there a hunt?
