Could you get a second opinion as to whether it is a sarcoid?
eta i misread nd thought you were buying a horse wih sarcoid :)
They can cause a problem. I've seen more than one horse with a small seemingly harmless sarcoid erupt into large growths. One was the size of tennis balls... the other just covered a large area but was on the girth and made riding impossible.
Saying that a horse at college has a sarcoid and it's never changed. she was treated with cream... i can't remember the name but it basically burnt them off. The treatment/management will depend on what kind of sarcoid your girl has (if she has one!). there are diferent kinds.
Good luck :)

We bought our thoroughbred 3 years ago, knowing she had a sarcoid at the top of her near fore. It doesnt affect anything, hasnt changed in three years and is not a problem. The vet has a look at it whenever she comes to the yard, but in three years it has remained as it was. We check it every day, and the vet's advice was unless it changes for the worse, leave it alone and do nothing, and that works for us. I couldnt say whether a sarcoid on another horse would necessarily be as benign, and I have seen a lot of horses with sarcoids which are horrific - I used to be on a yard which provided livery for the equine hospital here, and there were so many sarcoid patients it amazed me.

Joy has one. I noticed it this time last year and freaked.
It is a varacoid one about the size of my thumb nail.
I took some pics and the vet sent them up to Liverpool for the Liverpool cream. This didn't work and the sarcoid stayed as it was.
So As it was them coming into summer I spoke to me vet as I didn't want Joy to go into fly season with a wound. We decided between us to leave it alone and monitor it.
The thing hasn't changed but as you can imagine I am keeping a very close eye on it.
This is a link to the most hepful info I found when Joy first got one.

Oscar had one on his sheath - I use camrosa cream (sensitive area you know) its now just slightly discoloured but smooth to touch
but I know a horse who had the all over in the end he died because one over his eye caused his eye to rupture very messy but dont worry he was in the horse hospital so he was just put to sleep there and then ...

That was a month ago, now it's entirely flat, and the hair's started to grow back nicely. He had the sarcoid for nearly 2 years before I began to treat it, didn't want to touch it with liverpool cream etc in case it spread (it's between his front legs, and I didn't want it to interfere with the girth area).
Whole treatment has taken about 5 months and cost about £60 or so.

We use ditton cream from hilton herbs, which contains thuja and it has kept storms sarcoid at bay for three years.

Thank you for all your help and info defo got some reading to do!!!
Was thinking about a second opinion but most of the vets are a bit funny if you are already registered around here so may prove a bit of a pain.
