Bob gets hay fever - now as he's lazy and black so he sometimes over heats if it get to hot then added to his hayfever we hit problems ( he will just stand in the sun and melt ) he's dehydrated b4 not a pleasant experience.
Anyone else had this problem? Last year he was on pollen X, year b4 Hilton herbs - this year he's on feel good 30 respiratory oil.
I cut his hayledge down replaced with good doer, and turn out in the evening for a few hours or first thing if I can get him in at lunch.
I spray his bedding with eucalyptus oil watered down and he's bedded on nedz bed original.
I rode at 7 this morning so he wont get to uncomfortable.
*** Any tips to make our summer together better for him ***
:)

Can I just ask? does it cause coughing? It is just that Rosie has COPD and it seems worse now in the heat. She is not snotty - just coughy

No he doesnt cough although my friends mare does with her COPD - Bob's nose run's and his breathing goes shallow , stretches his neck out to the ground.
Does this help?

Dont know if this helps at all but my horse has alergies-tree pollen and grass to a lesser degree. He has the runny nose, streaming eyes and ocasionally shallow breathe. I use a full face mask when hes in the field, ride in a nose net [him not me]and a tip from my vet [which I always seem to be going on about ,but it really works] vaseline up his nose, it traps the pollen and stops it entering his system.

My mare bliss has COPD (dust allergies) and SPACOPD (pollen allergies)
She has suffered with both for 5yrs +, and in the past has cost me £350+ a month vet bills to keep her breathing clear
But I have found the answer for her, and its worked over the last 2 summers, without a vets assistance
Bliss has every day all yr round, without fail:
Winergy ventilate, it costs about £32 and lasts a month, it was originally recomended to me by my vet! Its fab stuff
Global herbs Pollen X, - I use the syrup as its cheaper than the powder, more palatable and can be bought in large quantities, making it a few quid cheaper than the 1litre bottles
And Echinacea - it boosts the immune system and should be fed 2 weeks on 1week off
She also has when needed, with bliss its april to sept, antihistimines, I bulk buy and get them pretty cheap - but speak to your vet before trying
I also have a full head fly and nose net on her in the field and ride her in a nose net too
And I try to keep her a fit as possible, with prolonged canters, as this keeps her lungs strong - my vet advised me a gallop a week would really help clear her lungs out - I cant do this, as I dont have suitable hacking routes, but we can only do what we can
If I run out of any 1 suppliment, her lungs do deteriate, the combination of all the suppliments and work, does the trick for her
I hope some of this helps, you and your neds

sheer bliss - do you use piriton? I had that recommended to me but have never tried it. Our mare isn't too bad, but sneezes and finds exercise beyond a walk difficult in the pollen season. We give her a breathing lickit thing (horselyx?)- really works for a few hours - long enough to ride her anyway!
