Well it's been a month to the day now since I thought Jetboy was going to depart this world....he survived his op and is doing rather well, his bad ground manners have returned! Naughty boy!

He's on limited turnout - 2 hours a day - on his own, for the next month. Has a big bright airy stable, hay and water, a ball with treats that keeps him occupied for hours (!), and 2 small feeds a day.

After two months (end of may) i'm wondering whether it would be ok to leave him out in a small paddock with antoher pony, with the weather being nice. But originally the vet said, first 2 weeks box rest then turnout for few hours for next two months - which means anothe month after this (=3 months= end of June). But a) the cost of full livery is making it difficult and b) would it be ok for him if it was a small paddock with two well behaved ponies??

Hmm - just wondered what others experiences were on looking after horses post-colic surgery???

After Pickles' surgery in 2002 I was told to let her have limited grazing after 3 months, but she was turned out on her own in a pretty grass-sparse paddock, wearing an anti-cast roller, for about two hours every other day.

My vet is fantastic and you can call for advice and not be charged. I would advise you to give your vet a call :)
