I have just noticed that the mare that I share (Blossom) has a scabby, scaly dry rash running from her knee to fetlock. Before anyone jumps on me I have told her owners who just said that she gets it sometimes and they would clip it and puy cream on it. I was just wondering wether anyone knows what it could be (didn't have the chance to ask owner). Is it possible for horses to get Psoriasis, cos thats what it looks like. She also won't let me touch it, when ive tried she starts kicking out with that leg.

If it helps I can get a photo at the weekend.

Any ideas anyone?

Has she had it long? It sounds a bit like mud fever that is healing, it's often very sore at the beginning and makes them funny about you touching the area even when it's better.

Well due to a bad back i hadn't seen her for 1 1/2 weeks, it wasn't there before then when I went on Saturday i noticed it. I have never heard/experenced mud fever going that far up the leg - its not really in the heal. She has never been that happy about me touching her legs and I know she has had mud feaver in the past. She has only just gone out in the field (she was in all winter from what I know) and the field is farily dry so has not got very muddy.

my lad gets sores from just above the knee down to the hoof,
i use pig oil and sulpher now and its the only thing that works for him,its fantastic stuff,
if you do a search in the bar above and read all about it ,im sure you and the horses owner might agree to having a go with it,if you like you can pm me about it.;):D
