I am doing some local showing classes at the end of this month and have a Welsh x TB mare. She has very big feet - everyone comments on them. And I am a bit worried about having her legs clipped - as I think this will make her feet look even bigger when her feathers are removed, and coronet band trimmed.

Am I worrying about nothing? Just wondered who else has horses with big feet and whether clipping makes a huge difference. She is being done Monday, so I won't have to wait too long to see what they look like.

Try not to go too close in with the clippers. It makes it a bit too noticible. Fortunately you have a couple of weeks to get over the "newly clipped bald" look so she will be fine. Good luck with your shows:D

Thanks. :) I've got someone very experienced clipping her legs, so hopefully he will know what to do. How often will they need doing? I'm not sure how much showing we will be doing this summer - mainly doing dressage and pleasure rides. But wondering how frequently they will need tidying up.

Gabe has massive feet (the next size shoe is Shire!) and here is him with feathers on:

They are growing back now, he just has a light fluff, and looks fine. Big feet are a good thing, be glad of them :D

Are big feet a good thing? I'm not sure - my girl tends to trip over hers an awful lot, particularly on uneven ground.

She had her legs clipped this afternoon, and he tidied up her face (but left whiskers on as she lives out) and ears - she looks bootiful! :D
