I school a 13.3 welsh sec d mare who is 4 in June. I have been told to get her bending in walk and trot and working in straight lines whilst i am schooling her but i have come accross a problem:o
Tiff now bends in walk and trot and her straight lines, tranisitions etc are improving every time i ride her but when i ask her to bend she puts her head in but falls onto the forehand. She now has her head mostly all the time whilst im schooling her but she does fall onto the forehand. Shes not heavy on it and doesnt lean on my hands. Ive been doing a bit of pole work to get her listening and i was thinking of doing raised poles with her this week end to get her quarters stepping underneath her more.
Should i carry on doing this and keep my leg on more when she has her head in without asking her to rush or should i just do alot of long and low work?
Also what exercises can i do with her to get her off the forehand? Transitions, pole work etc?
ETA- I dont actually ask her to bring her head down, i ask for bend, and ride her fowards, she carries her head quite low for a welshie anyway, and offers me to bring her head down. i know shes too young to be working in a correct outline, and shes only worked 2-4 times a week for a max of 30 minutes each time. When she is worked i lunge her for one of those times a week and ride her, and when i do ride her shes only hacking and schooling in walk and trot :)
