I have rubber reins and i think they are too thick to really feel what is happening at the other end. so my question is what kind of reins do you prefer?
thick or thin leather?
those webbing things with the rubber lines at various intervals?
Rubber....thin or thick?
Thanks

I like continental reins (webbing with leather laces at intervals) or plain leather reins. I find rubber reins too bulky. Not so keen on laced reins either although I'd prefer them to rubber.

I've always liked bog standard, plain leather reins but am recently converted to the Libby's reins, cheap, soft and rubberised for grip without rubbing your hands into blisters.
I also quite like the half rubber reins (with leather on one side, rubber on the other).

I like thin rubber - no idea why (standard RS cheapo-pony reins!!)! They just feel nicest to hold and quite grippy; i always rode in them as a little kid so sort of grew up used to them. One RS mare i ride has big thick leather reins and i can barely keep my fingers round them :p!

Likewise, dressage reins. Very pliable and soft.

You an get half rubbered ones which are leather one side and rubber the other.
If I read the other posts I needn't have posted this! DOH!
They are popular, I make lots.

Ditto Fizz, I like the thin dressage reins with rubber on the inside, they look smart too.

I prefer thin leather reins...I find rubber reins too bulky, and seem to ride quite heavy-handed with them compared to other reins, because they feel so arkward.
