Went into Derby House today and had to change the bit I bought yesterday as I had picked up the wrong size. While on the hunt for the correct one I noticed a Korsteel Pinchless Dutch Gag. THe joint in the middle rotates and the girl at the counter felt that this was the pinchless bit.
Anytried these and found they make any difference to 'ordinary' bits? Hope so as I just paid an extra £10 for it lol

pinchless bits tend to be slightly curved in the same shape as the horses mouth. not straight so when you take up contact the theory is it doesn't pinch the tongue.
i use a myler which has a long lozenge in the middle, his tongue will not get pinched with the usual nutcracker action, so this could also be classed as pinchless. korsteel is however a good make, and i did have one for my previous horse which cost me £25 at the time and she was happy in it.

I always thought the pinchless bits was to do with the design of the cheeks - however ive had a quick look online and it seems korsteel make these bits so that each side moves independently from the outside rings. The rotating middle sounds like more of a differnt type of join - eg lozenge, french link, peanut, revolver.?
Id be interested to know what type you got? Is it just a single jointed?
Im considering putting Blue back in his Dutch gag as he is very full of himself:rolleyes: He has high head carriage so in a mrtingale..... BUT the latest tactic is to lower the head and charge:o which is what his old owners said they used the gag for, hen hacking & jumping. I know the gag lifts the head, but im guesing that happens moreso with a singlejointed bit, so im trying the frenchlink version, and the martingale is very loose so it only comes into play if we actually attempt to poke our nose to the sky!:D
