Ahh. Well my horse has always been a fidget to mount, and wont stand at a block due to an op he had for kissing spine. Before his op it hurt when he was being ridden so he still antisipated pain when being mounted and used to trot off. Since i could manage i used to just mount from the ground (i know that isnt the best option for his back but i couldnt exactly chase him with a mounting block. He got really good and started just standing to be mounted. Anyway i had to not ride for a while due to exams etc ( and im still not able to ride as much as i would like till the end of this month) so he started his not standing to be mounted thing again at first i though it was just because i hadnt been riding him for a while and he had gone back to old habbits. Then his saddle started rolling when i was mounting i started to wonder it was not fitting, though when i rode i just got leggys for a while because he was showing now indication of it hurting bar when i was actually rolling and i though i'll get it sorted once my exams are over. Anyway an equine massage lady was out and told me that he has a very sore back , and she comeing back to do somework on him 2morrow and i now think that it is my saddle causing the pain. So i plan to get a saddler out - im waiting on her phoning me back- and i phone his previous owner to find out about the saddle as it came with him and she told me it was a jumping saddle (wintec close contact) i never realised it was a jumping saddle, that makes me sound bad i imagine but i always just assumed it was gp. Now im concerned that riding and school in a jumping saddle could be the problem, or is it maybe just its not fitting him , or both? Im thinking i should sell it can get a gp ? i plan on jumping but not just jumping. Probaly only light competing once more schooling has been done. So if anyone thinks they know what the problem is and if i should sell it (im thinking yes) Thanks:D

The style of the saddle (i.e jumping) wont affect his back. The difference between styles is the size of the cantle and shape of the flaps, size of knee rolls etc. It sounds like the fit/shape of the saddle is causing problems though. The only time the style makes a difference to how a horse moves, if if the flaps is impeeding on shoulder movement.
