Hi guys, pony on our yard as sweet itch. He has a boet rug which works well which he wears during the day. Pony is stabled in an open barn right at the end near the big opening to yard. Owner takes rug off at night & leaves him naked. The last few nights I have been down poor pony has been rubbing himself crazy.
They think they are doing him a favour by taking it off at night but he without rug at both crucial fly times - dawn & dusk.
From experience I have found to keep sweet itch at bay most horses need t heir rugs on 24/7 & most are more than happy to have them on.
Have tried suggesting this to them but don't seem to get message across, just feel sorry for poor scratchy pony!

our little pony has his on 24/7 and has done for the last 4 summers in a row and has never done him any harm, i know it seems a bit mean but they really do work wonders, and information that came with Boet says can be left on 24/7 :)

My Oskana suffers from sweet itch and she has her fly rug on 24/7.
Well not really 24/7 I take it off obviously when I ride and I loosen it and make sure that its not cutting into her every evening.

This is a bit of an old thread but i was wondering, if the Boett rug is wet and you take it off to ride the horse, can you put it back on if its still wet? You would have to if it hasnt dried out enough in the time you are riding, plus the horse needs to have the rug on 24/7 so cant be turned back out without the rug and cant be stabled as is on grass livery

Would a waterproof turnuot over the Boett be ok to prevent that problem?
