Has any one bought any of the cheaper treeless saddles from ebay?

I need something temporarily whilst horse is putting weight on so don't want to go all out on getting a fitted saddle yet.

I know a couple of people who did but only so that they could take them apart and assess them. In general you are going to get what you pay for, most of the cheap treeless saddles that I've seen on ebay haven't been fit to put on a rocking horse never mind a real horse.

You CAN get some bargains but you need to have loads of pictures and ask lots of questions.

I agree with bay mare, most of the cheap ones just aren't worth bothering with.
I bought a cheap-ish ( £150-ish) traditional looking one from ebay and it was awful, not good enough to be on a horses back, and my pony soon told me where to go when i put it on her back.

I had a trekker talent (first edition) for backing my welsh cob in, it was a cheap and cheerful saddle (£300 when new) and did its job very well, they can be bought second hand now.

I personally would not buy some of these awful saddles that appear on ebay now, its better buying a decent treeless and sticking with it.

I absolutely LOVE eBay :p

Having said that I made the mistake buying a bridle for a bargain price. When it arrived you could see why.

I think eBay is great for buying branded items so you know what the quality will be. I won't be buying anything that isn't branded if I need something of relatively good quality.

I bought my treeless from a German Ebayer back in February 2007. I think it cost about £135 including delivery by courier. It is just a basic synthetic one, but is very well made and still looks very good after many hours of use. Frayne and other ponies (it has been used on many sizes/shapes), as well as all riders, find it comfy - even on long/fast rides up and down very steep hills. I have arthritis and cannot ride in a treed saddle anymore. There are definitely some good and cheaper saddles out there.
