Can you get just a very light, unlined turnout? I have a masta lightweight turnout for my new forest mare, however with this weird weather i want to be able to rug her very lightly if its likely to rain so i can ride a dry pony rather than a sogggy one.

She gets too warm in her lightweight turnout, can you just buy something like a human rain mac?

Thanks

Does her current lightweight have any filling?

pull it out??? have a google of light weight turnouts, or rain sheets, and check the actual weight of them.

i have an Everest turnout rug, which i believe is a Weatherbeeta rug under a different name (like Saxon) that has a mesh lining- i dont think you can get unlined ones because they'd be clammy on the horse/pony.

Yeah hers has a filling, and the rainproof bit is quite heavy (should have said filling rather than lining), someone at my yard has a rain sheet, it has a lining but its only a cotton lining, no filling, and the rainproof bit is just a thin light layer.

Shes had it for years though, and has no idea where it came from.

I would look at the amigo light weight... they have no filling and to actually lift they are quite light, alot lighter than my shires lightweight and this seasons colour is lush :D Sietske has had one for 2 years now..wearing it most winter and some of spring and autumn too and it hasn't leaked once or rubbed and survived Nelsons pulling and tugged when he has wanted to play with her :p

I have the amigo summer turnout. It's even lighter than the winter turnout but as it's only 600D it's great unless you have a rug wrecker!

the weatherbeeta landa lite is the lightest one i've come across. i was surprised at just how light (weight wise) it is.

compared to J's old (now Dylan's!) Masta, the landa lite is really light weight wise.

I like the look of those Bucas sun/shower ones - the silvery ones that don't get them too hot.

But to be honest most of the time i just let them get wet anyway if it's warm!

Just to go off rugs for a second...but whats wrong with riding an already wet pony? Surely if its raining your only going to get wet anyway and if it isn't the coat doesn't take long to dry off anyway ;)

My reason is, my mare sweats irregularly when ridden, usually dependent on if she gets excited or not, so i like to ride her dry, then when i finish i know that is shes wet its sweat. I can then put a cooler on her, and the rug her again to turn her out, as i dont like the thought of her getting cold rain on if shes just dryed off from being sweaty after exercise. Although if its stopped raining, and shes dryed off with her cooler on i just let her go out naked for a good roll!

I don't bother with a cooler, I just make sure the last portion of the ride is a cool down section and then I turn her out ASAP when we get back so she isn't stood around. :)
