The remainder of Daffy's clipped coat isn't going anywhere, and as it's a dodgy shade of beige rather than black, it's a bit of an issue. I'm using Megatek Rebuilder on it, in a spray. We have a show on the 26th which I've already entered, so if needs be I will dye it black.. but any suggestions for speeding up the process? He is wearing a fly rug during the day, nothing at night, out 24/7.

what about a grooming stone to strip the rest of it out? Arnie's coat is almost crispy just now. The clipped hair is still there but the new coat is underneath trying to come out. The stone is helping a little bit.

I'd say, put a light weight rug on (with a cotton lining - NOT satin (or anything shiny..) for a day or 2. The extra warmth with make it easier for him to loose, and cotton linings tend to ease the hair out themselves anyway (on mine they do anyway.)

Grooming block, spikey thing, shedding blade and curry comb not working!

His LW rug has a mesh lining rather than cotton, so I don't think that would do the trick unfortunately.

I think I'll try giving him a bath tomorrow, and maybe I'll slap neat Megatek on the areas which need it twice a day for the rest of the week.

Is there any way that you could leave the fly rug off for a couple of hours to let him roll some of it off?

My welshie is holding on to her woolies for dear life!!! Been to the show today and it seems alot of horses are still wearing their clips :p

I blame this shabby weather we are having....too inconsistant and not at all what it should be for this time of year

I don't think you guys quite grasp just how bad Daffy's clip is. :o

This is the worst bit, the other side is normal for a clipped Daffy.
See the full winter coat on the belly? The stepped winter coat just above his hind leg? I wouldn't normally expect to have our placings affected by a clip, but this one will most definately do just that. :o

He was having his fly rug off at night, but now he's coming out in bites so he's having it on 24/7 other than when I'm messing with him. Tried to bath today, but too cold so just did another thorough groom, will try again tomorrow hopefully.

ETA, I've decided I'm not dying or make-up-ing it black, I can't be bothered, either it's coming out or it's staying as it is.

I had a wee look at the photos on your other thread and you can see it a bit more clearly. How handy are you with clippers? If you are very handy (and I do mean very) you can clip WITH the coat instead of against the coat, ideally with a set of coarse blades and you can blend all the fluffly brown stuff in and take the worst of it off. Basically, just clip him in reverse of the way you would normally clip. This will take off the fluff but leave the new coat which is growing through. You can also do this with the small trimmers with a guard on if you were happier.

If you're not sure, you could practise on the underside of his tummy to see if you can get the hang of it. I am not suggesting a proper clip but just basically skimming the old stuff off the top.
