are there dominant and recessive alleles for facil markings?
and if so what causes changes of the markings(eg like wonkyness, or blobs in a blaze)?
does co-dominance play a part in anything?
i'm probabaly waaaay off but thought i might ask :)
thanks x

Markings like socks and facial markings are pretty poorly understood to be honest. There are genes that cause them, we know of sabino and splash for a start; but the interesting thing is that twins born to horses never share markings so there is also a theory that some of it at least is down to environmental factors in utero.
Generally though splash white causes blazes that are wider in the middle and go off to one side of the horse's face, and even socks, often behind. Sabino causes ragged socks and ragged blazes that tend to be wider at the bottom, and the odd splodges you sometimes see.

It's amazing, for once, I totally understood every word of Chev's post, and got confused by the QUESTION! :D
But seriously, co-dominance? What's that? :p

This is a sabino blaze; uneven and wider at the bottom.

Sabino socks;

lol :p woo
chev feel free to correct me if im wrong.
but its like, with snap dragons white and red alleles are equally dominanat, so the offspring will turn out pink when homozygous red and white are mixed.
it is the same with some breeds of cow apparently, where red and white can create roan calves

I don't know of any genes really that would do that; but where you have both splash and sabino, you'll usually get more white than when just one occurs.
There are horses that have a combination of white pattern genes that result in the whole horse being white, if that's any help?
