You 'can' - you won't get sent out of the ring - but its not correct.

inhand i would say definitely not. ridden - there are no rules against them btu it's not ideal. performance counts of course, better to go well in a flash than badly in a cavesson, but it is not really liked.

i dont know any history, how old she? if she is young then it wont be that bad, you have to let them get a feel for the bit first and ket them get comfortable, rather than just jamming it in and strapping them up

Have you thought about a crank noseband? That would be the most acceptable.

A crank is basically a padded cavesson that does up through a strap looped through a ring so you can put some tension on it.
The professionals have specially wide nosebands made for this purpose, the so called 'grandstand' was called after the show cob it was designed for.
A drop would not be better than a flash.

You should look for one similar to this:

You're local tack shop might have a cheaper version.

I have a crank on Gracie - looks like a regular cavesson but she can't get her mouth open! (and yes, before some genuis replies, Its not a quick fix, I have worked on her schooling, she gets good percentages at elementary - but when facing a 3'3'' workers I need a wee bit more stopping power! )

At a show i was recently at a judge banned all gadget's from the showing classes.
I don't really blame her after seeing 13hhish hand pony with a gag bit, a grackle, a breastplate with standing and running martingale attachments
Got chatting to someone near me who almost bought the pony and he used to be in just a snaffle and was a lovely little fellow and the only reason she didn't have him was that her daughter choose her current pony over this one.
