Ok probably a silly question, but what exactly is a training bit??:o

I was thinking about changing my horses bit from a loose ring waterford to something a little nicer for schooling. I bought a loose ring lozenge bit (which I am hoping to try once he's had his back done next week as he's a little off at the mo!)

I got it from a tack shop but when I looked it up in the internet is called a 'Training bit'.

Can someone please explain what a training bit is and whether I should still give it a go? My horse is 11 but still quite green when it comes to schooling

Thanks :D

i have just bought on of those lozenge bits to start my loan horse (she's unbacked at present)
i *think* it's called a training bit (by some company's - not all) as it's very mild and has no severe action (ie no nutcracker action etc)... also because it allows for some play of the bit so is good for starting horses off with....
but i'd give it a go - it's bascially a nice mild bit - if it suits the horse i wouldn't worry what it is called!
