is anyone else finding it increasing difficult to find a nice padded brible WITHOUT a flash? maybe i'm just being fussy but i hate taking the flash strap off to make a cavesson because the tab thingy is still there!

i know a lot of horses need them, my own wears one sometimes but is there really a need to have one on every single frigging bridle!
sorry getting a bit frustrated! :o

I have heard on hear of other people cutting the 'tab' bit off with a really sharp knife. I agree with you though they all seem to have flash's - it prob saves money during production, only having to make one noseband with two ways of working.

just cut off the tab? or get a saddler to unstitch it and remove it

Hiya, hope it's ok to say that I have bridles in the hunter style with flat, plain nosebands on my website. I have never used flash nosebands myself on the Fells, and I have also noticed in retail and wholesale catalogues that everything is flash!

Bridles are not English leather, but are very good quality.

I'm a bit flash & crank phobic these days so I had the same issue, solved by a Barnsby 3-in-1 comfort bridle. It's lush, you can choose any 2 nosebands - I got a cavesson & a drop with it. Not cheap but worth the money IMO!

I take them to my saddler, he unpicks the stitching, takes them off and restitches. I have it done often, horses I break in I send home with a bridle without a flash so people won't be tempted to put one on just because the loop is there!

I hacked the loop off my bridle - looks much better, but its left a big lump. I see what people are saying about getting them restitched, but I really object to paying out more to get rid of something that I don't want in the first place!

I'm actually considering getting a custom noseband made because I can't find what I want (wider than standard, padded, crank) anywhere except for stupid money, and the rest of the bridle's fine.

i have a jb double that has a wide crank, padded caversson on it. its full size i think, i can measure it if you want. its an expensive bridle, but ive oiled it and never used it, would be willing to sell cheap to get it out of my conservatry, i can go and measure and take pics if you want

I'm the same, actually, over here there are very few bridles without them. or no noseband at all :D. But I have looked at buying a REALLY nice english leather one with a flat noseband but they cost a couple of hundred, and since I don't need to I won't till I do. :D

I agree, it's really annoying! I understand why the manufacturers do it, but it's not exactly encouraging people to reduce the number of gadgets they use, is it?

hi

i have noticed this as the sabre bridle i have atm has an annoying ugly loop hanging down but becuase of the money i paid for it i dont want to cut it off and it look a mess. i have a stubben bridle that has a nice chunky paddle nose band that doesnt have an ugly flash loop, so they do exist lol

xxx :)

Well it made me laugh when one of the main features (in big text on the cover) in a magazine recently was about using less gadets and the cover-image had a horse in a flash with a running maringale & brestplate and i think spurs.
