Who else is going in September? Thought i'd start a special thread so i can pester other friesian ppl with questions!!
My lorry is booked, got a great deal! Una is "in training"... Well getting her out in-hand seeing everything everyday. On the advice of the FHAGBI lady who was so helpful, im going to put a radio in her stable to get her used to noise and stuff, she'll love it [:D] Im not worrying too much about her trotting in hand, just as long as she walks nicely and stands politely.
Is anyone else getting a runner or are you running the horse yourself? My stumpy legs aren't long enough to keep up with Una's huge stride lol!!! So im getting a runner!
Having major chaos at the moment, so glad i didnt leave it til last minute to enter. Una's papers name me as her breeder, so thats got to be sorted before she can be entered. Again, FHAGBI are being sooooooooooo helpful with that, im pretty much leaving them to it :D
Anyway, hope to meet some of you there! I cant wait to see all those lovely friesians. Im just hoping Madam behaves herself :o

We are going and taking our colt - he won't actually be graded as he's only a yearling but he will be 'looked at'.
Definately worth getting a runner, when we took Dandea 2 years ago we got one and it was well worth it.
It really is a great day out, we got there very early last time and then I spent most of the day pacing nervously, but Dandea was awarded 2nd premie Ster so it was well worth it.
They have a gazebo thing in the ring and I honestly thought that Dandea was going to freak but she didn't bat an eyelid bless and she did very well with her trot and only broke to canter once.
I did spend ages getting her ready for it, I kept a fly rug on her for most of the summer to keep her coat as black as possible, she was bathed thoroughly the day before and I put her mane and tail into plaits - not horsey plaits more like human plaits, got up super early on the day to sponge out any stable stains and then off we went, luckily the place is only an hour and a half away from us so the travelling wasn't horrendous - oh and I got some of that shiny hoof black stuff and put that on her feet when we got there.
I'm all excited about taking Xander this year.

Hi,
I may be going with my filly if I still have her, although, she's for sale at the mo.....better make my mind up pretty quick, whether to just keep her until after the gradings, as I'll need to get my entry in!
I will definately hire a runner.....I'd just let her down, and the runners certainly get the best out of them.

Una's used to a gazebo as for some reason my neighbours had one up in their field for about a week lol But she's generally fairly laid back. She'll be excited of course, seeing that many horses and all the excitement, but hopefully she'll behave! Hoping and praying anyway :D
The Grading is being held 14th September (a Sunday i think??) in Pontefract. It would be great if you could come see Una if you're not in NZ Alex! She has changed so much!! :D She's HOOOOGE!!

We were going to go and take Marchje, but have sadly had to take the hard decision to sell her.
She's currently finishing off some extra schooling and has performed beautifully, but she needs bringing on further by someone with more experience than we have. It's a shame because the little riding I've done with here has been great fun, and I was looking to make use of her driving skills at sometime in the near future.
There will be an ad in the next FHAGBI newsletter.

How's everyone doing with only a week to go???
We got the "catalogue" of entries from the FPS last week, theres going to be a good number of friesians there it seems :D I definately want to watch the babies, how adorable! lol
Una had her practice trim up this morning - nightmare as its pouring down still and i had to do it in the stable with no lighting!!! But, she looks a bit more presentable. Couldn't bath her as she doesnt do rain, definately wouldnt stand for a bath in the rain lol So hopfully we will have some dry weather next saturday so i can tidy her up a bit!!
Getting excited now :D I have no idea what we have to take to these things as its our first... So far i have:
- Passport (with record of vaccination)
- Pedigree thingy - the yellow laminated thing lol
- Black bridle with inhand lead
- rug and tail bandage to travel in
- brush, hoof pick and a polishing glove
- Hay - Lots thereof
- Bag of apples for if she is a good girl (her favourite treat!)
What have i missed?? Do we need hoof oil or is that not allowed?? Someone said i need baby oil for her nose????? HUH?? lol
Think i might take everything and see what other people are doing!!

I havent got the catalogue thingy with me, but there were about 8 - 10 foals i think, 3 or 4 yearlings, only 2 2yr olds (Una is one of them) then theres about 10 or so ridden horses i think... Cant remember the colts/geldings, thats just the girls! Theres gonna be a fair few there.

Is this the inspection at Manor Grange? I may see some NR peeps there - I will also be drooling at my favourite breed and probably regretting having sold Kaspar ... but I have to give myself a bit of a slap, he went to an amazing home and is being left entire which is what I really wanted. So if you see a drooling blonde taking masses of pictures that will be me!

I think it is at Manor Grange.... A riding school i think anyway :D lol
Do come up and give Una a fuss. It will all be very new and maybe a bit scary for her as she's not done anything like that before, so she needs all the friends she can get, as does her owner lol
We are number 40 according to the Catalogue and presumably we will have to wear a number (either me or the horse anyway lol!!) so do come and say hi!
ETA: All of you going with cameras please take loads of piccies of my Una as it will probably be the only time she will be groomed and trimmed and looking smart until the next one in two years :D lol Would be nice to have some if you guys dont mind sharing any you get :)

Im going! Im taking my mare into the ridden mare class :) I took her to the last inspection to be graded so I know how you feel ;)
Babyoil is used to give a real shine / gloss to the coat and highlight specific areas. The downside is it can attract dust which then dulls the shine!! For the coat I used LOADS of Cowboy Magic Super Bodyshine http://www.cowboymagic.com/products-super-bodyshine.html which really does work. For the mane, I plaited up in thin sections on the Saturday and then left in right till the last minute. This makes the mane more crinkly and ‘fuller’ Run through a little Cowboy magic Dentangler and Shine http://www.cowboymagic.com/products-detangler-shine.html and it separates and makes the hair look really shiny. Don’t put too much in though as it can make the hair ‘flop’ and the crinkles fall out LOL!! Do the same with the tail – Plait it up right the way to the bottom and leave in right till the end and you get a lovely full wavy tail.
On her face I use Alva horse muzzle highlighter http://www.alvahorse.com/shadow.htm which has the added beneift of having lavendar which is nice after they have been 'shaved' and also the smell is calming :)
Of course, Babyoil is perfectly good enough - just remember not to overdo it!! Best to apply using a sponge or such like and 'dab' it on. It can be used on the mane in the same way to give a shine too.
Are you showing in a white keuring bridle or a normal one? I didn’t have a white one so just used my normal bridle. I did buy a ‘bling’ browband and remember to remove the noseband to show her face off.
I'll look out for you :)
GOOD LUCK!

I haven't even shaved Una, i dont own anything so posh as clippers :D She has had to tolerate me snipping each hair and whisker off with scissors, she is just a little angel :D
Im not going to go too overboard with the stuff in the coat as i've been told the judges prefer to see a natural coat, mane and tail. Una's a pretty shiny girlie anyway so i was just planning to put some baby oil on her face if other people do and thats about it.
Is the mane supposed to be crinkly then?? Una's always had compliments for her lovely straight mane :D lol I have to admit, im not a big fan of the crinkly look, Una's mane will sometimes go frizzy when she's got wet and i hate it!!
We are just going in a normal black bridle. I enquired with Jane at FHAGBI about the white ones but she said not to worry as they'd probably be a little big for Una anyway, so just a simple black bridle it is :)
Una is still very immature looking (im told she has SLOOOWWWW lines on both sides lol) so im not worrying too much, we're going mostly for experience for her and me!! But we want to look as nice as possible!! :D
See you there!

The mane isnt supposed to be crinkly but I found a LOT of people did plait it up the day before toget that full and wavy effect :) It was quite drizzly that morning though and I took the plaits out too early soby the time we went in for our class he mane was completley straight LOL!!
The judges DO want to see a natural coat in respect of not tryng to dye the hair darker or using 'make up' but all horses that I saw were VERY shiny and had had some product whether baby oil or a show shine applied ;)
The clippers I use are a pair of cheapish human hair clippers LOL! My hubbies in fact! I cant afford horse clippers either, and in all honesty for just doing the trimming of the face and back of legs I find the smaller clippers much easier to use :)
We just used a black bridle too ;)
Are you going down on the Saturday or Sunday? What time is your class? Just give us a shout if you need a hand with anything as the ridden class isnt until after dinner :)

Me and Vel want to come not fair!!! Hey good luck with it, Im sure Una will be a good girl.

10th Sep 2008, 08:19 AM
vciky - Thanks for that! I shall see how shiny i cant make little Una lol! But i have a feeling it will be pi$$ing down all day so she's not likely to look her best lol!!
We're going there on Sunday morning (leaving at 5:30!!). Jane at FHAGBI did offer a stable, but its the first time Una has travelled, other than coming to me, and her first proper outing and i think staying the night somewhere strange is a bit much for her this time. Next time i will get a stable and do the social thing on the evening before :D
Our class is due to be on about 10am i think??? Its the 2yr old mare class.

I am ***PRAYING*** for dry weather! Will be such a shame if it rains all day :( Especially for the people who are having thier horses graded. I must admit I was suprised when I went last time that it wasnt indoors
Today Metcheck is saying its gong to be dry - so Im not going to look again LOL!!!!

I just looked on BBC weather and it said it was going to be heavy rain all day sunday up there lol!! Confusing!!
I hope it doesnt rain too much when Una's being judged, she is not keen on the rain.
