Hey all, it's me again :D
I wanted to know some of ya'll's opinions on refreshing Gator's memory with some ground driving. I pretty much am intermediate and have professional help, if needed, with ground driving. Here's my motive:
I'm a grey about Gator's training prior to me owning him. The lady I bought him from is pretty scatter brained, although I love her to death, she just isn't very sure as well. To me, he seems to be advanced green broke. Although he isn't very good about transitions, he can neck rein. It's quite odd what he knows and what he doesn't know. Anyways, I decided to breed Hopi this spring and use Gator as my 4-H project horse until Hopi's baby is weaned and I can show those two. I want to go back to the beginning with Gator's training so I know his training is set in stone. I want him to be push button basicly.
I am going to work on ground driving until I can get my bosal hackamore and mecate. Once I get my whole hackamore getup, I want to start him in that and then work back up to a regular curb bit (even though I'll be very hesitant about doing so, I love my snaffles :() which is really the legal bit he's suppose to be shown in. What is your imput on restarting my 16 year old? Anything I should watch out for or take into consideration? I know that hackamore training can take a bit longer than snaffle training, but the horses are so responsive and obedient, when taught correctly.
Sorry this post turned out so long with such a simple question :) thanks!
