I have been riding for around six months and I'm loving every moment of it. :D But the thing is, I want to learn new things but I on a different horse every time so by the time I've got used to how tight to have the reins, etc.. it's time to go home. I can only afford to go once every two weeks and I don't seem to be getting anywhere. Should I try and ride the same horse so that I can concentrate on me rather than the horse or should I keep going on a different one? Please help me:rolleyes: :(

I think that you should learn to ride and do all the position and and cantering and trotting and stuff on one horse and once you are used to riding and confident and can ride well enough to adjust to the horse you could ride the different ones and you can concentrate on different horses and learn more things on them - thats what i think and thats what i did and i worked for me !
also riding a horse out side or a riding school is different - maybe you know some one that has horse that needs them exercised !
poeple will tell you different and you can see everyones point of doing stuff their way and see what sounds best !

I agree that learning the basics on one horse is best. I also have to take lessons once every two weeks, and I wouldn't be much of anywhere if I had to switch horses. It's so important at the beginning that you trust your horse to "take care of you", so that you can concentrate on your position, hands, correct aids, etc. NOW I feel totally comfortable when my instructor says "I'm going to put you on a new horse this time", but until I got the basics sorted out, it would make me really nervous and I would end up learning nothing.
And please try not to get discouraged about your lessons. I've been riding for almost 4 years, most of that time only once every 2 weeks with NO other opportunities to ride. But now I'm a fairly confident rider, with a decent seat (though I have my issues:) ), and I'm comfortable in walk, trot, and canter, and can actually canter a small course of jumps (though not well!). So, it is possible, and you really are learning, but I know how frustrating it is. When I used to whine to my instructor that I just wasn't getting anywhere, she'd always be ready with a list of things I could do that I couldn't do 6 months ago:
"remember when you thought posting (rising trot) was impossible?"
"you hardly ever lose your irons in trot now."
"there is no way you could have kept him round in canter like that a few months ago!"
Sometimes, that's the only thing that kept me from giving up!
Try keeping a journal or videotaping a lesson every once in a while so that you have a record of your progress. And feel free to PM me for moral support! I know how frustrating it can be!

thanks guys!, there is a horse called toby who I seemed to bond with so maybe I'll ride him lots and see. I'll ask my instructor too maybe she'll have a horse I can ride! It's great to know that I'm not the only one who never seems to be getting anywhere!:D :p
