The grazing at my yard is very good to good infact as my boy now has a huge grass belly:eek:, he is not fat anywhere else-just his belly and he comes in from the field so bloated! :o
He gets excercised about 6 times a week mainly hacking with hill work lots of trotting and cantering and i take him for a gallop once or twice a week so i dont think its due to lack of excercise.
He goes out in the field for about 8hs during the week and about 4-5hrs at the weekends as normally go on long hacks.
Does anybody have any suggestions that dont include having him stuck in his stable as he loves going out!
Any help is welcome:D
Also has anyone tried Spillers Happy Hoof????

Get a muzzle to slow his intake, then he can still go out. Remember if there are any bullies in the field, he cant bite back though.

Good luck with the grass belly Soph.

Happy Hoof was the only food I'd give to my last horse (BIG Suffolk Punch cross) & he got along great with it. A couple of my friends also use it & no complaints.

Muzzle!
If you fancy that then your alternative really is to bring in for a few hours. My TB is only in light work at the moment so is also really suffering with a grassy belly, he looks rather pregnant! With the warm weather as well, we have been turning out at around half 6 in the morning, then fetching in at lunch time by which point they have had enough grass to fill bellies & are fed up with the flies & ready for a snooze, then they go back out at around 5 til about 10. Gord's belly is much more controllable this way & they really seem to enjoy xoming in for a snooze (this coming from a horse who doesn't do staying in very well either!)

we have the same problem! We find it goes down if we keep him in for a few hours but otherwise we don't worry about it - but he does look funny!
