i watched an adult improver class last week, and it was just so funny to see this very short but very strong and very fast pony doing the fastest trot ever around the school, there were five very long legged horses behind all struggling to keep up with the small speedy one.

The instructor said to me normally they'd have a taller one to lead because of the longer stride, but with this little pony he just bombed along so they let him set the pace. who says ponies can't keep up with horses!

i have a 13.3hh ponie in my lesson with toby that has has a 11hh little one and instead of going into a canter she does the fastest trot ever !!!!!!
we canter about 2 horses lengths away and she trots at the same speed - its amazing really !!!!

There are times when Kvikur and Magnús and Laurel are all taking the Mickey mercilessly out of their riders and plodding round like old crumblies. They are about 13.3-14hh, that sort of size, When this is happening we sometimes have to let Fivla or Pants or even Shilling be lead horse....and Fivvie is only 34 inches high! She can walk the hide of the big ones when they are being lazy.

i have a trotter :D...when my mare gets going there is not one pony on the yard that can keep up with her in trot..they all have to canter alongside her :D i went riding with a friend once who has a big horse...who iusually cannot under any circumstances keep up with on a haflinger i use to ride. But with my elja i trotted merrily alongside my friend no problems and my frined was amaaed that such a small thing can be so fast :D

hehe, Alot of the speedy ponies at Kyrewood are very competietive(SP?). lol, I love going at a really fast trot on a lil pony, your rising is like "up.down, straight back up..oh no, I got left behind"

on the competitive point, the particular speedy pony in question was not allowed to take part in the more advanced classes because he got too excited and fast wasn't the word for him then. he was considered fairly safe as long as other horses/ponies were only walking or trotting, but as soon as he saw any one else cantering that was it, he was off. in the lesson i was watching in a big indoor school, he was up to half a school's length ahead of the other horses, just setting a really spanking pace. the other horses were big 16+ long legged types - they looked fast but in reality were a bit lazy. He on the other hand just looked full of beans and very happy in the lead.
