Well I had another fab but eventful day with Spike today. When I arrived at the yard I was greeted by a large truck dropping off some stone chips for the council(land rented from them) and hoped and prayed they'd be gone by the time I'd got Spike in from the field as I didn't know how he'd react. They had gone but no sooner had I started to groom him did another enormous lorry arrive to unload 2 digger type things! Spike was an angel much to my suprise (being an ex racer TB thought he might act up a bit with all the activity and noise);) he was very interested and needed some reassurance but nothing too serious and the guy on the lorry warned me the second digger was noisy so we moved round the corner for that one and other than some fidgeting whilst I put on his boots he was fab! So that put me on a confident note for tacking up. Today we didn't even have a "conversation" over his bridle, he was a star. So once tacked up and ready to go and feeling brave we set off for a lovely hack in the sunshine. After some warming up and a few lovely trots(he feels soo lovely to ride!) we got to a bit of track running parallel to the M6(scrub land, hedge and fencing inbetween!) and a lovely buttercup field. I decided to muster all my courage and we had a brilliant controlled canter! It was great!:D I felt onto of the world, after a big fuss for Spike we headed off trotting and walking for home. On the way back I realised though that I had lost my phone:eek:! I got back to the yard, sorted Spike out, fly spray, fly rug, picked out feet etc and turned him back out with his freinds. I was now feeling awful(I've never lost a phone and can't afford to replace it!) I retraced our steps but no sign of it although I did encounter a group of dodgy looking lads:(. I asked people if they had seen it but no luck. As I returned to the yard really unhappy, Spike's owner was there and came to my rescue she offered to drive me to look for it so she could ring it to see if we could locate it. Just as we were going my phone rang hers! A girl had found it somewhere else in the valley no where near where I had been riding! We think the lads I saw had picked it up but then dumped it again! We wentto meet her and after thanking her for being so honest and helpful returned to the yard very much relieved! :) So all in all it turned out ok. I was very pleased with Spike and how good he is being(we'll see if he's still the same after he's more used to me!):D and can't wait for Thursday now! (I will have to find a more secure way of carrying my phone though!)
