This week's lesson was western....and I LOVED IT! He was sooo smooth and the trot was not bumpy at all. I absolutely loved it.

Because I have no intentions of dressage, jumping, showing, etc., I'm making a permanent switch to western, as it was so much easier on this o'l woman! LOL :D

(but why do I feel like a failure now?.......)

Now what's all this about failure-feely-ness? Whyever do you feel like that! :p

I'd love to try western, it all looks so laid back and that. Good Luck with your change over!
How're you finding the difference in position? I think I'd find that the hardest. Old habits die hard ;)

Most of my hacking has been western. I do show saddleseat, but enjoy western much more. The position isn't a huge change, you still want to be lined up and balanced in the saddle, it's just not quite as prim. Western saddles are alot bigger and heavier, and since my Jackson is gaited I have to have a custom western saddle, but they hold your bottom in nicely. I think that's what's so nice, you don't have to work quite as hard to stay in position. Welcome to the club!!

Do they sell "saddleseat" in tack shops?

I've looked at dressage, hunt, and western saddles, but not familiar with 'saddleseat'.....but I'm a newbie, so........

I would LOVE to try Western - and suspect I could be completely converted:). Unfortunately I cannot find anyone in my area (Ayrshire, Scotland) who teaches or even rides it:(.

You are most definately not a failure - go for it:D

Saddleseat is ridden with a cutback saddle ME, I believe.
