I am partially disabled and cant stay on my daughters section A. I am ok weight wise, but he is too fast for me. Not allowed to ride anyway.
I have now managed to get my own fields with another woman, and want a quiet retired pony just to sit on bareback in the fields and walk around on because I can afford a second one now.
Where do you find the oldies? My 19yr old fell went back to her owner for a last foal and then to get retired, so I cant have her back.
I dont mind, arthritus, copd, and my little guy has lamnitis. Just want to give a home to one that I can just sit and walk on to get my "secret horsey fix".
Any suggestions of quiet ponies etc. Sheffield , South Yorkshire.
All the adverts are for youngsters!!!!

Aww, I really wish you luck, what a wonderful thing to want to do. I hope you find your oldie. Have you tried the Blue cross or a horse sanctuary, they often have neglected old horses that are looking to live out their final years in peace. Your post has really made my day :-)

just idea, but could do what we done when looking for a pony for my disabled daughter.go to the RDA home site and contact one of the listed contacts for information etc.Explain that you are looking for pony etc. They can give details of their centres that are needing to downsize. We found our boy that way.............Goodluck.........

scribbler - tried emailing rda society for advice, and they said they could not advise on breed etc. I was shocked as that is what I thougt they were there for.
Will keep looking. Thanks for replies.

cazie - yes but they all want a yearly membership fee and adoption fee, and transport fees from all over the country, average £300-500. Cant believe it when there as some of us that would give a perfectly good home and already have company for the oldies. Doesnt make sense. I know they have overheads, and if I ever win the lottery I will give it all to them, after I have bought my 1000 acre farm of course. lol
that is why I asked if anyone knows of something in my area!

You'll find something - just keep those eyes peeled, check all adverts or place an advert of your own. Let as many people as poss know that you're looking and one will turn up. There will be plenty of folk out there looking for the type of home that you're offering!

It may be worth contacting the Veteran Horse Society.

There's one at our yard looking for a new home, perfectly happy and healthy and would be fine with what you want but i think it may be too far to travel :(

iloveshearer - I am in South Yorkshire, where are you?
I keep trawling the internet and papers, but they are all young and for competing etc.
The veteran horse society want you to pay £160 plus yearly subscription I think, and transport and they are all ove the UK.

iloveshearer - my previous loan fell is living in Oxfordshire with her three daughters and grandaughter. She is 20 now. Had her 4 years. She would stop if I lose a stirrup, would only let me do sitting trot, cause I groaned too much in rising with my knees.
She could clear a jumping course or cross country with my daughter though at flat out gallop.
She let me canter and jump when I wasnt too bad, but she really looked after me. One in a million. You could put a 2 yr old child on her and come back next morning and it would still be on!!

Hi Kturner.
Put an advert up in Argo feeds and Throstle nest. There are always people with older ponies who they don't want to sell on but who they want to find a good home for.

Good luck with your search, a notice in local tack shops/feed store would be useful, everyone who pops in reads them including me :). I have been looking for a quiet old horse to come and live with us and hopefully restore my confidence, I am sure he /she is out there.
Asking all and everyone may work, I have our blacksmith on the case :D

I find that the tack shop ads are usually for young or middle aged, "proper riding horses". Will try a Wanted Ad. Maybe people just keep their oldies till the end, and that is when they want to spend more time with them when they are needing nmedication etc, and wouldnt want to loan. Will keep trying.
Someone should start a Golden Oldies website for selling or loaning or retiring.

Dylan is from Trallwm Farm. They charge a one off adoption fee and that's it.

You could try HAPPA. I think they're situated in the North West. They have a website.

wow cazie, that is an incredible offer, looks like she could come up in a few different trailers. (may have found one in Dorset)
any ideas on travel. if she cant travel for too many hours we could try to stay over somewhere as well.
There is no rush and hopefully the pony would be with me a lot of years to come.
Do you come to Yorkshire regularly?

Hi.. Nope, never been to Sheffield in my life lol.. but your post moved me, and I thought, If I could help in any small way that you could get your "secret Fix" then for me to give up one single day is not a big deal to helping you find the happiness that you will have for not just one day, but many many of them :-) I may even be able to help with the over night stay... Just give me a shout if you need any help :-)
Ps.. I'd quite like the bareback ride around your field too :-)

cazie - there is a 20yr old in Dorset who can come and retire with me and she doesnt like tack either, so the pair of us can just potter about the 50 acres I am moving to. We have a separate field for the ponies which is short of course, and three brick stables.
She is probably not much bigger than my little chap so I will be able to handle her on the ground, teach her parelli, do clicker training, or just laze about the stable and fields.
There are only 2 of us sharing this farm, other lady has 1 and I have 1, so there is a spare stable.
I could even have my dream of sleeping over with them, with no YO giving orders. lol
I am bursting with happiness, but wondering how on earth I can get her to you.
It just seems "so close, yet so far" if you know what I mean. I dont want to get my hopes up in case it doesnt work.
She is my favourite breed and I have been emailing their breed site for about a year looking for one.
Cant say much more as the lady is a member here. We are having pms at the moment.
Will keep you posted if I can.

[QUOTE=kturner]I am devastated, it has all gone wrong. The lady at the new place said I could give notice last week and bring stuff slowly over the next two weeks till the end of the month.
I took about half my bedding today in bags to the new stable and her dad swept the stable out for me and offered to put up my hay rack.
She phoned me half an hour later and said that I cant bring anything before the end of the month and have to move everything on one day, and because I did that she wants to cancel.
I couldnt believe it. She said to go fetch the bedding back out.
Her dad was still there and just held his hands up and said she has changed her mind before to stay at the livery she is on with her mates.
I wish I had known that before. Anyway I phoned my YO straight away, in tears, hoping I still had my place and she said she hadnt even advertised yet, so I am very lucky I can stay there.
I will have to start looking for somewhere that has two free stables again.
