Hi I have just bought a new pony for my eldest daughter, and unfortunately she broke her arm the next day at school, so is unable to get on. He is 14.1hh 10 yrs old and and pretty stocky, but im wondering how much he could carry for a plod around the block. I wouldnt trot or anything, but i just worry i would hurt him. Im ride very light, and my last horse a 15.3 tb carried me fine even when he wasnt in the best condition, and i did everything on him.

Pls give me some ideas of his breeding aswell if u can, his passport says unknown but his old owner said he was newforest x cob. Thanks.

Personally I would say 10 maybe 11 stone but I am no expert. And I definately think hes got newforest in him.
What a lovely looking pony :) Hope you have fun with him

OMG he is really cute! Your poor daughter...I hope she is better soon. I would say up to 12 stone for weight and go by how he seems once you are on! And breeding...I cant see anything in him to suggest Newforest x Cob would not be right!

Nice looking pony - I too think there is some NF in him. His legs don't look overly chunky but that could just be the angle of camera. You haven't said how tall or how much you weigh;)

11 stone easy...:)

I knew a 14hh pony that coped with 11 stone. She wasnt impressed with anyone over 13 stone. Un mounted the rider straight away. :p

Id say 10.5 stone max for normal workload but if youre only walking id say up to 12

My pony is 12.2hh and has had at least 12stone on him and carried it fine. He carries me fine and i'm currently at my heaviest of 10stone. We do jumping, hacking and schooling, local shows etc.
I'm sure he will be fine just see how he goes with you on him x

I'd say, get on him and see how he reacts. I should think he would easily carry 12 stone just for a plod round the block, but just sit on him, and see what he does. Best of luck !

I'm about 10 stone and I wouldn't think twice about getting on him, he looks lovely and as you say quite stocky. As others have said he'll probably go up to 12 stone as a plod around, but that would be a "suck it and see" situation for me.

He's not as stocky as he seems; he's actually quite light of bone. His body is chunky but his legs are not, and it's the leg you look at to measure substance really.

I'd happily stick 10 stone on him but not more then that, to be honest.

You didnt say how heavy you are or how tall, but I ride a MW 14.1 cob and I weigh 10.2 st and am 5'6" and she seems ok, we only do rides round the block anyway so does that help?
