I don't know if anyone has any ideas in this regard or could help me but I am missing working with horses and am after suggestions of where to start.
I have only ever worked with horses but since I have moved to live with my boyfriend I have no connections in the horse world, there doesn't seem to be any real riders in this area.
I would like to become a qualified instructor but I don't have access to a horse or anyone with a horse through which to do it. The only riders up this way seem to be serious event riders, and I have applied for a job as a groom but am not really qualified. I considered riding at the racetrack but am a little apprehensive because I have only ever ridden well trained horses on the track and am not particuarly keen to try out other peoples horses.
Does anyone have any ideas, I'm at school as well so that kind of limits things on another level, should I just give up on the idea and wait until I'm out of school to get back into horses...I don't know?

have you tried equestrian agencies u can find them online and advertise your self or answer adds they will give you jobs going within your area, there’s also horse courses you do at college or at home to get qualifications towards a further career sp in horses, last of all least advertise in local shops and papers u might get an answer.

If you're still in school, could you offer to help out somewhere for experience rather than pay? I got a lot of valuable experience at weekends and holidays and some free riding too whilst studying during the week. I started off with no practical experience except a fortnightly riding lesson just lots of enthusiasm and willingness to work hard.

Michelle,
Thank you for your suggestions, I have thought of doing that before but forgot about it for some reason or another, but I think I will try, I really miss the contact with horses.
Maria,
Yes, I got my last job with horses that way, I worked for a long time without pay and actually wasn't that fussed when I was offered to recieve money (I eventually was pursuaded ;)).
I will probably put out a work wanted add as was suggested and offer to work for free. The only problem with this at the one place here I have been to was that the girl competes internationally so it wasn't really something I could do.

Hi there. Having also been away from the equestrain side of things since April I to am looking to get back into it! :) I would suggest helping out after school and at weekends for the experience! Or a weekend job at a yard? The more experience you have when you begin to work full time after leaving school/college the more opportunities there will be for you. Experience is EVERYTHING when it comes to horses!! Avertiser on as many websites and poss and you'll be sure to get somewhere!

Hi Hannibo,
Thanks for your reply. I think my main problem is I don't really have the time to work at the moment, it's more wishful thinking then anything. It's taken me a long time to get over the fact that I can no longer ride whenever I want...in fact where I live now I don't even see horses. (At first I used to make my boyfriend take me for drives in the country just so as I could look at them). Now I realise that I'm not going to dissolve into a beginner after a couple of years off.
In reality I think work is probably too much for me physically, I am having trouble coming to terms with the heat here as it is. Perhaps there is some informal way I could have contact with horses. I used to exercise horses at my old place but unfortunately there just don't seem to be the same amount of horsey people/owners in my new town. Any ideas?
