I'm off with little daughter a week today to hack out on the exmoor ponies in Kinross. Its the first one I've booked up from all the fantastic suggestions I got on here. We're really looking forward to it, I'll let you know how it goes and hopefully be able to work out how to put some pictures on here too:)

Good for you. I'm going riding at the same place this summer too, and I'm planning on taking my kids for a half hour session too in the evening. Really looking forward to it cos I had so much fun last time I went (last year). I'll be going with my younger sister too and hope she has as much fun as me. Last year I was only up to walk and trot but this year there'll defo be some cantering going on!!!!:D
We should be going on the 16th of July (I think). Let us know how you get on and who you both rode. I rode Dessie or Dezzy last year. She was pretty well behaved but I had to keep hauling her head out of the grass. We went up a few really steep hills and she would walk and graze at the same time cos the angle of the hill was steep enough to be right at her muzzle level anyway!!! ;)
Keep us all posted!:)

I will, we've had our confirmation phone call and although the weather report looks rubbish we're both really excited. We were on the website earlier looking at the pics of the ponies and reading their profiles so will be interesting to see who we end up on. Daughter has said she will definitely be cantering, I think I am still too chicken but you never know...
I'll have to remember to take the camera

Oh I had never heard of this. I so want to visit now. I have a 15 year old sis who may be persuaded. I love Exmoors. First pony I ever rode was an Exmoor called Porky. Mmm not sure about the 12 stone limit. I will work on that now uni is over :)

hey all, it was brilliant and the weather limited itself to two brief showers rather than the biblical downpours that were forecast. I was on a nice sensible little lady called Rosie and daughter was on a gorgeous boy called Cal and she got to canter along in the wilds, what a smile she had on her face:D We rode for about two hours to get to Campbell castle and stopped to have lunch there then rode back again which took longer because ponies and us were tired. There was only one other lady there, getting in some looooong time in the saddle practice for going to Romania in a couple of weeks to do a big long charity ride thing. I can't recommend this enough, definitely go if you can and I reckon £35 for a whole days riding is ok. This is the site for anyone who fancies it http://ponytrek.eusu.ed.ac.uk/
if someone can explain to me how to put pictures on here (sorry, I'm a bit thick when it comes to computers etc )I'll post a couple of the cutie ponies

Sounds like fun!
If you upload your pics to a photobucket account (free to open one if you dont have one) then copy the link for forums and a picture should appear!

Well that's me and my sister booked for next Thursday. We're having a half day hack in the afternoon and my little girl and her little girl are having a half hour lead rein ride before us. So here's hoping the weather holds out for us. They reckon we'll have about 3 or 4 hours in the saddle. Ouch - I've a feeling I'm going to be hurting for several days after this!! :D

you'll love it though, we ended up in the saddle for five hours in total but those little guys are so sure footed it didn't feel uncomfortable, I noticed that my shoulders stiffened up from holding the reins that long but everything else was fine, then again I do have lots of natural padding round my saddle area:D We're going to go again in a couple of weeks, I promised Lara's friend I'd take her too this time and they are on holiday just now otherwise I'd go before that. It was strange at my riding lesson yesterday though to be back on a 16 hand horse after being on the exmoor, it felt awfully high up

cool:) the other lady who was there last week rode Indi and one of the instructors was on Dessie, they were both gorgeous and bouncy, I had the very sedate lady because I'm a scaredy cat but may even try a little canter next time;)
