yes you can canter, gallop, jump and do everything you can in a treed saddle with them.

Depends what your budget is really, its always better to buy a better quality saddle, some of these budget saddles won't be worth it in the long run.

Try ebay for your saddle.

does he have a conformational problem to why saddles don't fit him?

does he have a conformational problem to why saddles don't fit him?
he is slightly bum high. they fit at the front then not the back and vice versa.
and i am tipped forwards and my legs come back.if i have a saddle that sits up at the front then its to tight on his withers.

a treeless for sale if you want. It is only a libra trec in black and 17'' but it is worth a go if you are not sure if treeless is the way to go. I bought it for my Haffie but he did not go well in it. He is a like a very large table with moving legs! I have just bought him the Wintec wide and he is a different horse - but each one is different. pm me if you want to.
Good luck, you will find something that suits, it just takes time.

My grey Icelandic mare is 12.3 hands tall..and super short back, very round and unlike yours..mine has no withers!

If you get a good Quality Treeless...say like a Treefree... you can go a bit longer in the saddle because it is basically a very fancy bareback pad.
Dyfra's Treefree is long but it doesn't both her.
Now I could not do that with a treed saddle.

I also have a Thorowgood xwide 17 1/2" Endurance saddle that just fits her...properly in width and length.

i have a libra from equine whispers, they do have a shop on ebay. i liked it because it was synthetic and i wanted it for the british wet weather. i also have a torsion, bought off ebay. (torsion expensice though they are, it is not a comfortable to ride in:eek:)

i did have a barefoot but sold it as it lifted up at the back and i wasn't happy with it doing it.

so are they to fit rider rather than horse then? i would be swimming in anything bigger than a 16inch.:o

it still should fit the horse and rider, treeless tend to be longer than treed as they are distributing the weight. you still need to make sure you ar not on the loins. the kidneys are underneath and it the weakest part of the back.

The solution looks a nice fit on him, what size is it?

Treeless saddles are usually measured on rider size, but horses back size does need to be taken into account.
Usually the non traditional type saddles are a lot longer and bigger than the more traditional english looking saddles.

The Seats in most Treeless saddles are not sized like English Saddles.

As for a Treeless on the loin area.. will not hurt them if there is no pressure.
Were I ride in my Treeless saddles is the sweet spot,, place where I would ride if I was riding bareback.

I have a 16" Treefree and it fits her with no bother. She is one of those very sensitive horses and lets me know very quickly if she likes a saddle or not. So the length of the Treefree is not an issue for her.

Another thing I recommend is the "Port Lewis Pad", besides listening to your horse, this is the best way to make sure there are not pressure points.
I used this when Demo-ing and trying a lot of treed and Treeless saddles.
Two best for her were..with no pressure points..very even. The Star Trekk Comfort and the Treefree.

The best thing you can do is Demo saddle you are interested in... see what he likes and use a Port Lewis pad to make sure. There are places that rent them, so you do not have to buy.

thanks shariN.
i will look around. someone said something about pressure points from the stirrup bars when rising to trot. is this true? i mesured it as if it was a treed saddle.

Hi, if you would like to email or phone me, then we can decide on a size and a suitable pad for you to try- there is a trial period.

By the way, it is possible to buy a quality saddle at an economical price- my saddles are excellent quality, the price is reasonable as there is no 'middle man', as they say.

There are 4 sizes of Comfort saddle, and I have an assortment of pads- I am sure we can make you both comfortable!

Regards, Sue

I haven't had that issue with the two treeless saddles I have. Think most of the well made ones, will not have that issue.
