Just a quickie. I have got some Leisure Mix here that goes out of date at end of july, or should i say best before date is end of July!! Was just wondering there is still half a bag left and would you guys just throw it with it being past best or use it up?? Oscar only on tiny feed to get his supplements in and am trying to keep his weight stabilised so consequently we are not getting through the feed as quickly!
Thanks x

I try not to feed anything out of date and prefer to just chuck it out for the sake of a few quid.
If it says 'best before' then it probably just means that they can't guarantee the nutrient content after the best before date. As long as it isn't dusty/mouldy then you could probably still feed it - does it look/smell ok??? ;)

If it's just out of it's best before date I see no problem with feeding it, I quite often get out of date feed from my local feed store as they can't sell it even if it is one day out. As far as I'm aware the only issue is that the manufacturers don't guarantee the vits and mins after the BB date so as long as it's been stored correctly I don't worry as mine has a balancer anyway.

i'd feed it if you're putting the supplements in. the bb date is the manufactureres way of saying the nutrients, vits/mins aren't guraranteed

The feed should be fine to carry on using as long as it smells as good as it did when you first bought it and there isnt any mould or moisture growing on any of it. Check every scoop that you are going to use before putting it in the bucket.

We give 'out of date' feed to a woman near us, or i take any bags that i use, as long as it smells ok, isnt mouldy and is stored in a cool dry space your fine, just bear in mind that the vitamin and mineral content will be lower and your best to add a supplement, which you do anyway :)

Exactly, it's 'best before' not 'use before' :)

If its been kept in like a bin, or something air tight ( i think its called lol) then it will definately be fine, if its been left in thetack room open then wont be as good, but still useable!

Have you thought of sharing a bag, and paying half or quarter, depending on how much you would usually use?
I did this when mine got no hard feed and I needed to get medicines and vitamins into him, paid my friend a little and just took one small handful everyday.
Of course you both have to be very honest about how much gets used and paid for. Works well if two people dont use much especially in summer.
