Question in title - it looked like one heck of a contraption and i'm not the most clued up on bits so could anyone tell me what it was please? Looked like it should come with it's own health warning ;)!

was that the one with the metal underneath its mouth?
<edited as not needed>

i asked my mum and from what she saw she said it was a hackamore used with another bit underneath.

It is a combination bit. A snaffle and a hackamore being used simultaneously with roundings between them. and a slobber bar to increase stability of the combo in the horses mouth and on it's head.

Myler and Mikmar both make several different styles and tout them quite a bit as the solution to loads of problems. They would give better head control without excessive metal in the mouth and aren't as strong as they initaly appear as the action of one would limit the engagement of the other.

I drove my OH nuts pausing and rewinding to try and get a better look at that bit, lol!
I think it was something like this (http://store.securehosting.com/stores/sh205878/shophome.php?itemprcd=M6) with a snaffle as well.
