I want to get some new stirrup leathers for my niece as the ones she using are rolled and won't do for the show ring :( But I have no idea about what sizes to get, could any advise what length for an 8-year old.

Thanks :)

Our 6 year old has 30" and is on hole 9 so they should a couple more years

48" may be too long for an 8 year old?

Yes, 48" may be too long, they are the standard childrens size available off the peg and if possible add extra holes in them to fit the child in question or if that isn't going to work, ask a saddler to shorten them to required length.
Some shops may sell under size, like the 30" you mention if you are lucky.

I bought my daughter (nearly 10)some Jefferies 48" leathers at the weekend, they were far too long, had to punch another 3 holes in them:mad:
That was the shortest any of my local tack shop stocked, unless I went synthetic.

Manufacturers are behind in sizes of everything I am afraid and 48" is the standard size!
Leather stirrup leathers can easily be shortened on the buckle end by a competent saddler, Oz
