Have you been to watch any other shows? What do the other riders seem to do with their hair? How do you normally wear it for riding? I would just put it in a nice pony-tail, or maybe pigtails if its long enough.

If the judges are only looking for who's got the most bling, then maybe you'll be unlucky. If they are looking to see who's turned their horse out nicely, who rides well, whose horse moves nicely and is obviously well-schooled...then you have as much of a chance as anyone else. I'm making a guess that you will be showing Western, maybe you won't be blingy, but you can be smart, tasteful and the best rider you can possibly be, and if the judge has half a brain, he or she will take that into account.

When is your show?

what i would do i would spend time straightning it then you could either just keep it stright then put highlights init or i would re- curl it but in ringlets with proper curling tongs, but if you really cant do them i wouldn't worry, the judges will be looking at your riding and at yoyur wardrobe choice, so no worrys................xxx oh and by the way good luck hun ....................xxxxx:D;):o

Hello!

I cannot give you advice about retraining your horsie, as I think you are far more experienced than me in riding.

However about the hair:

On the evening before the show, take a bath using lots of conditioner for curly hair. It helps a lot in separating curls and making them more defined and shiny.
Don't ever think that you don't have the bling, I am sure you're a beautiful girl and you will be even more if you would trust yourself more :)
Make a ponytail if it is long enough, or even better buy a hairnet and gather it all in it, it will look neat and stylish.

To make it shine, along with conditioner you can use some leave-in spray or hair wax.

Perhaps even more important that the actual beauty itself, make sure all your wardrobe is clean and carefully inspected before going into the ring.

Also smile a lot, people that smile are prettier and make a better impression than someone who looks grumpy or nervous.

Best of luck! keep us posted

kll, do you have an instructor? The only thing I can suggest for helping the horse "remeber" his early schooling is LOTS and LOTS OF PRACTICE !!! Is the horse yours? Can you ride him as often as you like, or is he a lesson horse at a barn? if he is a lesson horse, i would have a serious chat with the barn owner and explain what you want, and see what she/he recommends that you do.

If he is your horse, then get in that ring and school! Try and arrange a lesson from a knowledgeable horse person who can show you the correct aids, so that you know that you are asking correctly. Then, its just practice, practice, practice.

BTW, if its a western show, do you actually want him to canter? I thought they loped in Western !?!

I've never been in a horse show before, but I do know that a little Vasiline on your front teeth will make you hold a smile.

If you wear your hair in a pony tail put you could put a ribbon on it and a matching one on the horse's tail, they'd be cute.
