Well this thread is just an excuse really to to share some pics of me and Spike together! I am usually the one behind the camera but today Spike's owner very kindly took a few pics of us together:D We went for a short stroll around a local park and Spike's owner came with us on foot as neither me or Spike had been there before. He was a little spooky but very well behaved despite the roadworks and 2 drivers who nearly drove right into the back of us! 1 said he was worried the lights (temporary traffic lights at roadworks so Spike was nervous enough of them!) would change, to which his owner said "you'll be worried in a minute if he ends up sat on your bonnet!". The only real issue we had with him was the pond complete with very noisy ducks! Spike was terrified,he was literally shakingpoor thing, I tried circling him and riding him firmly forward which usually works if he's not sure about something but he was scared stiff, in the end even with his owner leading him and me riding him firmly forwards we couldn't get him to go passed it so we gave in with the agreement that it was something we would work on but wouldn't stress him any further and went a different way. (yes I know maybe we should of pushed on but this wasn't just him being unsure or acting up but so scared he was shaking and knowing him as we do we decided it was best to try again another day)It must have been the ducks that put him off though as where we normally hack there is a large lake that he'll happily trot or canter past without batting an eyelid! Anyway the rest of our ride was lovely just meandering through the park in the sun and then toddling back up the road past the roadworks this time without the impatient drivers!

Well done for getting this far and here are the piccies:

Back at the field minus my hat silk as he'd insisted in walking under all the tress and dislodging it for me!

Sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon.:)

I think you were right not to push him too much, he was clearly frightened and not just trying it on! As you say you can try another day, its better to build their confidence bit by bit than to force them to do something they dont want to.

Lovely pics, lovely horse.

Sounds like he's coming along great & he is so handsom (he's the double of my Linky).

BUT!!! I now have a serious dislike of you as I have all people who look good in a riding hat. Is it just me who looks like I've got a potty on my head in one? I'm always really conscious just how downright ug I look in mine & all these photo's of ladies looking lush in hats is making me even more paranoid lol. Gonna have to start a new thread about that one I think.

Haha! Look good in my hat, me? You're the only one who thinks it! Even my kids and hubby think I look daft! Have to agree with you on how handsome Spike is(ok I'm biased!) I have never been a TB person and have never been one that admires a shiney bay but I can't help but stand there for ages just staring at him sometimes, have fallen hard and fast I think, it's going to kill me when I have to give him up in September!:( Didn't think I'd become this attached this quickly!
