hello :), I am looking for a mix/cube/any sort of feed that will give Finn a bit more energy (as he is very, very lazy:rolleyes:) but not make him overly fizzy as he can get extremely hyper and excited. he also needs to gain some condition on his topline which i am working on when riding/lungeing. He is either ridden or lunged 6 days a week at the moment but has just had his back done(he had a crooked pelvis ) so he cant be ridden until next monday. He is currently fed 1 and a 1/2 scoops of dengie hi-fi and 1/2 a scoop of sugarbeet twice daily, plus a biotin supplement and oil.
Any suggestions welcome
thanks in advance :D

I would changed from the hi-fi to the alfa-A range, maybe the original one or the oil one depending on what suits your horse.

Id make sure also that he is getting the RDA of feed which will provide his vitamins and minerals. Once i changed to low cal, my lumpy lazy cob turned into something more foward and responsive. Only difference was he was getting all of his vits and mins :)

I too highly recommend a product from the Dengie Alfa-A range.
These feed are based on short fibre yet provide a similar amount of energy as that of a conditioning cube, with a much smaller starch content that could make fizziness more likely.
As the energy is almost entirely provided from fibre alone in these feeds, it is released slowly so as to promote greater stamina without exaggerating your horse's excitable temperament.
You can also gradually alter the volume fed according to your horse's workload, body condition etc without compromising one ssential nutrients, as these should be provided by a feed balancer (i.e. Blue Chip Original - fantastic for condition - or Baileys Lo Cal) or broad spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement ( i.e. NAF Pink Powder, incousive of an additional digestive enhancer, or Dengie Classic). Balancers and supplements are fed in such small volumes that they don't significantly add any extra energy to the diet, only the essential vits & mins.
I recommend Alfa-A Oil for its added soya oil content for enhanced condition. 2-2.5kg should suit for when he is back in work, but you might choose to feed less as he is not in work and any dietry changes need to be gradual to minimise digestive upsets.
The diet your horse is currently receiving is not balanced so he is not getting all he needs for optinum health and performance, but the sugarbeet would still be complementry.

:-) Good luck with him!
