YES I DO! Wooohooo! I've lost all my baby weight this year & if I could wear jods & long boots 24 x 7 I would :)

Nope, not at all! :D I used to have a lovely pair of soft jeans that I rode in, but I managed to rip a huge hole in them (not while riding). So now I'm back in jodhs.
Since losing almost a stone (woo hoo!) I look a bit better in jodhs, but I still have four stone to go :o My current pair of jodhs are some 26 year old Harry Hall ones (older than me!) that used to belong to my Mum. They're not smooth but not quite cords, so they give a slightly more flattering look. My smooth cotton/lycra blend jodhs all give a really visible VPL and highlight any fatty deposits on my bum and thighs :o So the right pair of jodhpurs can cover a multitude of sins! :D

as a blokes point of view jods were not invented with men in mind. There are two mystical materials in life, one is used to make jods and the other wet suits. Put either on a female and it pushes all the bits into the right places whereas on a bloke is does the complete opposite.

No, following on from the other thread about liking yourself in your hat, I don't like myself in joddies either :(. Whilst I posted a picture of me in my hat I won't be doing so on this thread. You'll just have to take my word for it that my short fat legs + jodhpurs = not a good look :o:o

Couldn't agree more! The only blokes that seem to be able to carry off wearing jods are the likes of Carl Hester - need I say more! The remainder of us mere mortal men just look ridiculous!!
For the ultimate ridiculous look though a pair of chest waders take a lot of beating. For some reason they are all designed to accommodate a 30 stone bloke, add to that a wax jacket & a self inflating lifejacket (even salmon rivers have gone health & safety daft) and everyone turns into the michellin man!!

The day I can stand in front of a full length mirror in my jods without a top/jacket that is covering me to my knees AND like what I see, I will be a very happy bunny - until then I'll stick to the dark colours with extra lycra.......!!!!

does anyone??
I had a 10 year break from riding, stopping when I joined uni, and starting again when I finally got over being skint! Used to think i looked fab in my jods as a teenager, not so sure now though! (although I think our pervy neighbour quite likes it when I come back from the stables, maybe I have still got it - hmmmmm!!???!!)

Not at the moment but I am working on it with the weight loss :).
A picture of me in cream jods taken in the spring spurred me on with my weight loss! Cream jods are the most unflattering ever!

... on a female and it pushes all the bits into the right places
Maybe if that female is under 25, under 10 stone and under a size 12..... but on real women they just cling to the lumps and bumps we already dislike!
Oh and slightly OT but I quite like men's asses in jodhs..... especially if they're built more like Oli Townend than Carl Hester :D

I used to think I looked fab in jods before I stopped riding over 10 years ago and all the attention I wouldget helped in that conclusion. Now, some days I think I look ok others not so, depends on the jods to be fair, my creamy coloured check ones make my very muscular legs look like enourmos tree trunks but I don't look os bad in my black ones or my navy sticky bums. But must have half chaps or longs boots on with them and really could do with some that push your bum up a bit!

I spend most of the weekend wearing my jods, and I don't care what I look like lol - mainly because I never did get the hang of caring about fashion. They fit well and are comfy for riding in where as I tried riding in jeans and they had seams in the wrong places (mainly the ones on the inside of my knee were most uncomfortable).

I do like myself in jods - perhaps as well, as I wear practically nothing but at the moment! Whenever I am forced into work (which isn't often as I am part time) I am made to get changed.........lol. I love my jods and long boots. They are sooooo comfy. I hate jeans - they rub and I don't like normal "womany" type footwear - I mean, I am old enough at 38 to realise its bloody uncomfortable tottering around in 4 inch heels - never mind if they make me look taller / thinner..........

I look awful in jods, thunder thighs wouldn't do mine justice and my backside looks like two planets colliding. I wear Caldene Reflex jods cos they're so comfy and stretchy (and mine have to stretch believe me) and I tend to stick to dark colours in the hope that it appears slimming. I just look awful in riding clobber full stop.

Out of the whole of my body my legs are reasonably ok I think so I dont mind jods.
But I like riding in jeans mostly, sometimes i wear jods because I think people at my children's schools may think I am a pig farmer or something. Wearing jodhpurs confirms that the source of mud, and the reason that I so often wear hunters, is because I am horsey.
Well I think jodhpurs confirm that. The other school parents prob think I am wierd anyway, going from the horsey look one day to a sari the next:rolleyes::D

Cant wear jods anymore because I cant get them up over the knee braces. Got hinges of metal in the brace. So I wear normal stretchy but quite hugging nylon tracksuit pants.
Cant get on the chaps over the braces either, so wear wellies. (Not allowed,I know).
Body protector fits over the two back braces, and the only thing which fits and looks normal is the hat. (Besides the glasses, blind as a bat too)
Look like the mitchelin man with a thick feather jacket on top of all that lot. Can hardly bend to ride, might as well stay on the ground with that lot on. LOL

I don't mind even though I am short and fat 14/16 and only 5'1". As long as I have knee high boots or chaps on I don't really mind. The VPL can be a problem though.
I dont necessarily look any worse in breeches / jods than in anything else.
But honestly, jods / breeches are riding wear and thats all they signify, not model girl appearance. So why should it bother anyone. Even tho I do envy similar height daughter who is a size 8.

When I first put them on I look at myself in the mirror and feel quite proud that at 42 and after 2 kids, I still look good in jods. After a ride and a few hours wear the stomach starts to go a bit and my bottom starts to look larger somehow, and I some how do not look as toned as I did earlier - I wish I knew why. Hey, I even wore a skimpy top on Tuesday as it was soooo hot. Perhaps its a confidence thing?

Nooooo i can't stand myself in them!!!! Technically there's nothing really 'wrong' with my legs, i just have pink ones and look a bit like a giant marshmallow in them :o! Had to go to my old school in them today (going on a hike and the organisers are based at the school) and kept bumping into the worst people to bump into! Idiots i used to work with, the very old crusty teachers, the kids who think it's hilarious that you sit astride something in tight trousers and ride up and down  - it was so humiliating! I always hide the tops of my legs in big shirts when i wear them :D!

Well I think I look reasonably ok. I'm size 7 (too big for a 6, too small for an 8;)) and do a fair bit of cycling so toned...ish.
Only thing is I have a noticable dent in one thigh from a riding acident yonks ago, so I tend to avoid wearing them in new company. I feel fine with people I know, family, RI, groupies at RS etc as they all know about it, but get sick of people asking about it. Nosey parkers:p

I must admit I like how I look in my black jods. I got them over 10 years ago and they're made of that minirib stuff which doesn't sag after a few hours wear. They also seem to act like the infamous Playtex girdle and shape you to the jods rather than the jods to you. They're age 10 cos adult jogs are too long in the leg for me - I'm 4'11". The "apron" of loose skin i have courtesy of my pregnancy can be tucked inside sort of and they flatten it out, so I can wear short tight tops and still look like a slightly curvy skelf (splinter for the English).
These jods have been through the wars - the waist band came off so I had to repair that, also some of the seams at the knee and the mice have nibbled a couple of tiny holes in them, but I don't care, I just wish I could find another pair, but they all seem to have horrid lycra in them that falls apart these days.

I like my legs in jods. They look better then usual, I don't wear them that much, mainly I ride in jeans but when I wear jods I still feel ok and get a fair few wolf whistles so must look fairly good I suppose! ;):D

No no no no NO! I am simply not gonna tolerate the men complaining about bits in wrong places. Since the very invention of clothing we women have been wearing articles that squeeze us, nip us, hold us in & contort us so the best can be made of our assets. Due to that I think it's only fair that men have the 1 (O.N.E.) item of clothing that (with fear of getting arrested for sexual harassment) accentuates all the right parts & is pleasing to the female eye.

Not quite sure about accentuating all the right parts - a nice toned bum is OK but the "bandy legs"!!!!!!

I look terrible in jods, and in my hat... But I don't care!! We women spend our whole lives worrying about how we look. For me one of the many fun bits of riding is I can behave like a little kid again - who cares if I've got straw in my hair, and horse slobber on my shirt!! Does anyone else feel like that?

I have no idea what I look like in my jodhpurs (or in my hat) - I don't think I've ever looked in a mirror with my jodhs on and I most definitely haven't with my hat on. Hat comes on seconds before I mount and off again seconds after I've dismounted (unless it was an unscheduled dismount hehe)...
In pictures I never recognise myself - only the horses ;-)
I probably should look in a mirror once in a while, might not get so many disgusted looks?

i think i look ok. dont suffer from vpl (get seam free ones if you want big knickers)
i have got long legs and im a size 8 so they are covered (not bony) without looking lumpy.
i am vain and look in the mirror when i get changed (goes for all my clothes though)
i had to go to my mates house in them, and had her converted, she wants some because they make you look good apparently.
dont have dark ones- canary for showing (probably my favourites!) yellow checked kids ones (just long enough in the leg but i love them) purple/lilac/pink ones, checked george schumacher ones (think thats the brand), green, and one pair of black for the off days (or should that be on) but i dont tend to wear them that much anyway.

Well said, Sophie33.
I love myself in my jodhs - because they mean I'm doing something horsey, and because they're sooo comfortable. Although I don't wear them as often as I'd like to now because they're beginning to wear out and I can't find any stretchy, pull-on, cotton, cord ones to replace them ...
As for feeling inferior because we don't look like some imaginary stereotype - the girls in the Caldene ads, maybe - haven't we outgrown that yet? After all, we don't expect our horses all to look alike, so why should we expect that of ourselves? I'm not slim, I'm not young and I'm not tall. Maybe my horse would like me to be a bit lighter, but apart from that, who cares?

heck no! but tbh i don't really care what jo public think. I have some weird and wonderful coloured jods, often enhanced with mud splatters and mucky marks from the boys wiping thier mouths on me after having their feeds. i've lumpy thighs and a well padded rear but i think i look far less offensive than the white tracksuit and trainer brigade, especially those chavs who tuck one trouser leg into their sock and leave the other trouser leg loose :p:D

I live in my jods 'cause I find them so much more comfortable for riding/yard jobs than jeans.
Don't look too bad in my black ones but any other colour I'm not keen (especially show jods).
And whatever possessed me to go out and buy patterned jods - not a good look for me :o:eek::o:eek::o
Note to self - as jods wear out replace with black ones.

Ride in jods and jeans, whatever happens to be handy in the pile i've ironed. Always blue or black though, only beige ones for days out. Don't do light colours when riding.
I don't mind myself in jods but it's like second nature now i don't care. Get some odd looks when i go to the co-op in them though, bloody townies :D

I used to be mortified at being seen out in riding clothes anywhere other than at the stables, but now I'm proud of my jodhpurs:)
Although I wouldn't strut around in them everywhere - work, for example - it's nice to have your horsiness acknowledged, particularly when you are still a (fairly) new rider. I think my OH looks nice in her jodhpurs, and she thinks I do in mine!
She and I were recently on the bus in our riding clothes, much to the amusement of the driver, who gave us the old 'Where's-your-horse' line

You sound soo like me! Although I don't tend to ride in jeans,I used to get some odd looks at my boys school from parents, kids and teachers when I first started college and picking the kids up after a full dirty day at the yard with mud/muck/slobber everywhere, hat hair and bits of hay stuck to me! Their school is in avery urban non horsey area so I really do think some of them thought what the f***! they are used tomeknow, but don't assume people think jods = horsey as I had onemum ask me if I'd been exercising or running!(ok did have my trainers on not boots but still had the jods complete with muck and slobber!) still very much a new rider so I love being in my jods and chaps:D Mine are black and very full of lycra though so they do hold in the lumps a bit, I tried on a pair of light ones in the saddlery but when I looked in the mirror all I could think of was a tub of cottage cheese yuck. When I took daughter there this week to get her some new ones they had lovely denim jods in blue and black, tempted but car insurance, road tax and my tumble dryer dying this week means they'll have to wait.
To change the subject, daughter has the cheapie long dublin rubber boots but has a habit of letting horses step on her feet (I think she gets too close because she wants to cuddle them ) so what do people think of steel toe cap boots, do they help and what ones are good?

I love my up market new breeches and long black boots - One of the benefits of learning to ride is walking around cross-dressed as a cavalier. Or Rosalind. - though one isnt allowed to say so on NR.
My OH looks fetching in his new grey breeches too - pleat fronted from Mark Todd.
But it is strictly for the horses. I dont cook in stable clothes.
By the way, raingodz, I love that horse as it is so like my favourite ride. If I come to buy one, I may seek your advice.

To change the subject, daughter has the cheapie long dublin rubber boots but has a habit of letting horses step on her feet (I think she gets too close because she wants to cuddle them ) so what do people think of steel toe cap boots, do they help and what ones are good?
Some people will tell you they're dangerous but I have Eqitector short & long boots & wouldn't wear anything else http://www.equitector.com. I'm far too prone to day dreaming & putting my feet under the horses hooves to risk non toe-cappers. If you do buy some make sure you have enough width cos of course, they won't stretch much round the front due to the steel. In fact, I'd say better to go a width up the way & put in an insole than risk your feet swelling (heat, long time with stirrup pressure) & them pinching. I don't think they do kids sizes though.

thanks TC, they don't seem to have them small enough for La unfortunately. If she woke up a bit it probably wouldn't happen but she wanders along cuddling in and trying to feed polos and forgets that these cutey pie lickle horseys are actually bleedin big animals that hurt when they step on you:rolleyes:

She'll not change Jacs, save your breath hun. I'm 38 years old & still walk along cuddling, day dreaming & getting stepped on. Not so bad now a days though with the TB, the old Suffolk cross however had hooves like dinner plates & I still didn't learn my lesson lol.

what can I say, I'm almost as bad too:) In my lesson yesterday I kept getting a fit of the giggles whenever I got my diagonal wrong, you know how when you start giggling then everything sets you off again, trouble was every time I did the horse stopped dead and I spent most of the lesson hanging over to her neck, in the end her and I gave up and just had a cuddle and shared some polos, I am THE worst rider

But if they're dark and fitted, tis far more forgiving to the outline than many other garments. Hats are a different matter. Mine makes me look like melon head and ruins my hair!

NO! I hate the way my legs look, Jods just make it worse. My bum is just a massive expanse of fat :( I'm a 16/14 on bottoms, 12 on top
5ft 7ish.
I hate trying to find trousers that fit (sorry moan coming up), if they fit on my thunder thighs then they don't fit on my waist, if they fit on my waist then I can't get them over my thunder thighs! Grrr!

Maybe if that female is under 25, under 10 stone and under a size 12..... but on real women they just cling to the lumps and bumps we already dislike!
I am that woman, except I am 26. And I don't like the jods either, they accentuate the fact that I look like a walking stick. I could not find any other color than black either

Ok, Im a guy and I wear Jods, dont like breeches & I tend to stick to the dark colours, as the light ones sort of enhance your bits if you know what I mean. :D

as a blokes point of view jods were not invented with men in mind. There are two mystical materials in life, one is used to make jods and the other wet suits. Put either on a female and it pushes all the bits into the right places whereas on a bloke is does the complete opposite.
Not so, Haphazard. I disagree. ;) Don't know about wet suits, but in my opinion men look great in jods/breeches and most women I know would agree.
As for my liking myself in my jods (schooling tights)--yes, I love myself in them, thunder thighs and all, because I am still able to ride and they fit like a second skin and are MUCH more comfortable than riding in jeans. :)
By the way, has your name anything to do with Sir Peter Teazle's son?

Well, goodness, I'm not small and I feel very happy in mine because I'm usually on a horse when I'm in them! I never before knew that being small was a prerequisite to being happy! :p ;)
