I had the saddle fitter out today.
I have been having trouble with Joy's trot (happy with the other 3 paces so this is the last pace to work on) as she immediately goes into giraffe mode and hollows out whilst trying to power trot on.
I had initially thought this was just down to my riding and that my rising was too noisy so that she would hollow away from me because of the return not being light enough. However Palmerlover52 reported that she was finding the same thing despite being half my weight and a far better rider.
The next stage then was to get her saddle checked as I wanted to make sure that the hollow power trot wasn't due to discomfort from her saddle or back.
I am now very wary about saddle fit considering she has cronic stiffness and needed physio last year despite being told by a saddler that her saddle was fine.
She does occasionally make faces at me when girthing up and I just wanted to be sure that it was just remembered discomfort and wasn't the same old problem returning. Mind you if you do the initial girthing up from the right she isn't bothered, not mention the fact that she is deperate to be caught to come in and work! You can't be too careful though.
The saddle fitter was very impressed with the changes in Joy since last October. She has lost her fat deposits behind her shoulder blades and she said her back couldn't be better.
Joy has no stiffness and delighted in showing off her flexion skills!
She has muscled up nicely along her back and her bum is just gorgeous and has lost its flabby wibble :p
The saddler also felt that Joy would be great to breed from despite the fact that I have always said I didn't want to as there are far superiour examples of welshies out there. She said that Joy was fine conformation wise but that her main reason for urging me to consider it down the line is for Joy's temperment which she was very impressed with. :D
Of course I won't be breeding from Joy as I still feel that there are too many horses out there already but the compliments about temperment and condition went down well I can tell you. I'm almost purring! :D
So now I know that there is no physical problem I can get on with improving my riding and schooling her to promote her to relax into her trot.
And to cap it all I have just realised that Joy will be 8 tomorrow so Happy Birthday Joy! :D :D :D
