I have booked myself a riding lesson. After considering lots of schools I finally found one that I feel would suit me. I started riding when I was about 7 years old and had my own 14.1 bay gelding for 10 years but I put him out on loan 13 years ago and stopped riding.
The thing is, riding and looking after my pony used to be part of my everyday life, so why do I feel so nervous about this!!.
Luckily, I am going to be in a lesson with a few other ladies who are in the same situation as myself so we can all get back into it together.
Do you think riding is something that once you have learnt you will always have the basics, a lot has changed since I learnt to ride.
I can't wait but I am also nervous - what's the worst that can happen:o

well done for booking it!
you'll be fine - be sure to let us know how you get on
as for changes - i've just been re-schooled so to speak - riding all my life but was taught the old grip with knees - few lessons and i'm back on track with new way but took a bit of mind over matter as so used to riding old way!
i think you'll remember the basics easily enough though - but be prepared to ache! x

You'll have a ball. I got back into horse riding at the age of 40 after a gap of over 20 years. I booked a beginner's lesson at a local RS, bottled out then cancelled it, then re-booked it and I've never looked back. After my first lesson had finished, the RI called me and my horse to one side and I thought, 'Oh, no I've made a complete pigs ear of it.' She actually just wanted to have a quiet word with me that I needed to go straight to the advanced class!! I was gobsmacked. Keep us posted on your lessons. Good luck.

the hard part is done! Well Done. I started again after about 6 years off last september and if you are anything like me you will feel nervous when you get there, probably feel sick with butterflys as you are about to mount but after your first warm up lap in walk you will develop a great big smile and wonder what all the aprehension was about. You will love it :D we are nosey though we will need updates on your lesson, good luck and enjoy!!!
Ooh and yes before you go, invest in some radox you will ache!!!

I think it's only natural to be nervous, after all, it hurts if you fall off. I am sure though, after the initial 'ouch my muscles have all died' moments you'll get back into the swing of things quite quickly.
I still remember my first lesson, I learn't to ride aged 21 and I fell off....lot's!!
