please post here if you have seen or tried any new ideas or inventions on the market.

or if you have thought of idea yourself. there must be some inventors amongf us.

the idea below is not mine, but is patent pending, please be constructive and not rude of people's ideas even if you think it's pretty silly and won't get over the first hurdle:)

If I had another new idea I'm afraid I wouldn't post it anywhere as sure as anything it will be copied if it is any good at all. The Equine market is terrible for this and patents are fairly useless.
Who has the original ragwort fork?
Who has the original Hay bar?
Who has the original polypad?
Who has the original wide tread stirrups?
Who has the original fly rug?
Who has the original boxed worm count kit? I know the answer to that one. Westgate Labs do and we won the Beta Innovations award for it in 2005.

Good luck to them with their idea. I would not dream of being rude about it.

I love the summer chaps, but have been riding for 20 years in shorts ... Times are tight :( I'll continue as I always have!

No new inventions/ideas but I'm a patent attorney and have helped get patents for those horse simulation things. Get me :p

It's a shame none of the websites give the application/patent numbers as then I could have found the actual applications (or a good thing for anonymity as names and addresses would have been made public).

Just because many people make similar things does not mean that there is no use for the patent. People can get royalties. Additionally there can be many patents for the same thing as often patents cover improvements rather than a large ground-breaking invention.

I must confess, not saying anything about these articles as I haven't looked at the website, you have a chance of patenting most things. One of the funniest ones being a device for administering smacks to yourself. I can't find it now but basically it was a rotating wheel spokes that had boots on the end and a person could cause the wheel to rotate and thereby spank themselves on the bum. WHy anyone would want to do that beats me!

However, it's not everyday somethign from my world makes it onto NR so that's kind of cool!

i know the person who made the haybar, and they are really nice people and it was completely their own idea.

i understand your concerns but i can assure you it was not copied.

our stables have them, the results speak for themselves, far safer than bodged bits of wood.

i do remember an idea came out, to have a mirror on the top of your whip so you could see drivers behind you, dragon's den threw idea out, but i thought i'd seen it in some catalogues maybe wrong.

i find it easier to just turn round since you have to check right and left side of you, by the time i've altered my hand to see the reflection the car or whatever has already passed.

Oh I didn't mean to say that the hay bar was copied, I know it is original and a very good invention.

I mean it has now been copied too by someone else.

as with everything there are always cheaper versions of the original. though the cheaper version is not necessarily better, you get what you pay for with everything.:)

I have invented 3 items that are marketed, they can be seen on my colleagues site www.cssaddlery.co.uk in exclusive products on the left on the home page, let me know what you think of them, we need lots of feedback?
The equine emergency sos is very popular and today I was told by a customer that it works, she had fallen off, horse galloped off and because of the sos on the saddle with all the necessary details in it the member of public who found the horse was able to re unite horse and rider very quickly!

yes i've heard of the sos and seen it for sale.

i do carry id on me, both attached to me and again on the horse so i don't have the need for it, i simply use the eventing armband that has all the info in it from cross country.

people should carry something as matter of course.

we were always told to put in your riding hat, but now i put somewhere else. hats shouldn't be removed these days.

Thanks newforest, I have sos's for dogs (loose and made into the collars) now that my 3 dogs are trialling for me, so far they (the sos's) have been through, mud, flood, ponds, lakes, ditches, fences, trees, grasses, brambles, blackthorn and hawthorn and have still survived!

I think the the summer chaps would be very popular in California, and many other parts of the U.S. where it gets HOT in the summer. Not for me...at my age, I don't do shorts in public :o, but I like the idea.

Am liking the look of those chaps! How do they attach? Would they work on a single flap close contact saddle?
