Hi, I tend to lean back more when I ride, not a whole lot so it's noticeable though. Does anyone know how I can get my shoulders more forward? Also, someone please explain half halts in more detail to me.

I think its a Sally Swift image to think of your seatbones as the points on a plug, and then the saddle is the socket.

You need to feel that you have your seat bones 'plugged in'.

Try it at halt. If you sit forward, some of the 'pins' are unplugged. Then roll your hips back, so you can feel the seatbones, then carry on back and you will feel them unplug again.

If you have your pelvis/hips right, it becomes much more difficult to lean back, because your back will feel very uncomfortable !

It can also help (try this one on the lunge) to exagerate the leaning back, then come forward to upright. i.e. make it worse to find where 'better' is.

hmmm, interesting. I'll try that at my next lesson. Also, do you have any information regarding half halts?

Had a quick search myself....

half halt - Heather (http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10412)

and this...

(All I did was a search on "half halt" but there are lots of responses where the answers are not to the point - we're a bunch of gossips on this site it seems ! :D )

The way I got taught to do half halts is to do exactly what you would do to stop the horse but less so he only slows and gathers ready for the stop but then keeps going. But you have to relese when it is done or esle you may get the stop.
