Please, PLEASE no debates about the pros and cons of weight limits at riding schools ;)

What I would like to know is if anyone knows of a school in the North East (preferably not more than an hours' drive from Middlesbrough) that caters for adult beginners who weigh in at 16 stone? Friars Hill have 17 stone up as their limit on their New Rider riding school information, but when we called, they said 15 stone is their utmost limit.
My boyfriend is not far short of 6ft and broad with it, so despite trying to lose a bit of weight, he's not really hugely overweight in the first place.
I've also tried Borrowby, who have a 12st weight limit. The Yorkshire Dales Trekking Centre has a 17st weight limit, but is a two and a half hour drive away. In fact most schools who will accept 16st are a really long drive away.
I do appreciate why riding schools have weight limits in place, but it's so frustrating when he's expressed an interest in joining in with my hobby but we can't find anywhere for him to learn and nothing suitable for him to learn on so we can't even get an instructor to come to us :(

What I would suggest is to ring round all local schools and the ones with the higher weight limit call into in person (your OH of course) when they can see he is a generally fit person they may let him ride. I started riding again after a break at 15 an a half stone and had murder tryin to find a school over the phone and internet but the first one I called to in person said I could ride there and I was truthful about my weight.
The lady just looked me up and down and said 'oh I'm sure we have people ride here a lot heavier than you are!!'
Good luck, will be lovely to be able to ride together, unfortunately my OH is over 20 stone so it will be a very long time if ever before we can ride together

Ditto the advice Shire Monster gives about him turning up and asking.

That's the way I did it when I returned to riding after a long break. They said they could accomodate me on 2 of theirs and even when I overesitmated my weight said by looking at me that it wasn't a problem :)
