Hi All

My mare Gracia has a nasty cut to her hind leg on the inside of her hock, its about and inch and half long in the shape of a diamond.

I have had the vet out and we have been on a weeks course of antibiotics and bute. On instructions to also hibiscrub and cover with dermagel twice daily.

Vet advised yesterday to wash cut with saline solution then cover with dermagel now as the hibiscrub is keeping it very soft and very open...

The only saline solution i could find was for contact lenses???
Is this correct? And if so do i need to water it down or can i just squirt it on over the cut?? Surely it must be safe if you put it in your eyes!!

Thanks

you can just dissolve some salt in boiled water. it doesn't matter about exact proportions - i just bung a big spoonful of salt in a small sterile stainless steel bowl and stir until dissolved.

ditto above - i awlys keep a large pot of cheap salt on hand for cuts etc!

And if you want to be really precise (then it doesn't sting) 9g of salt to 1000ml of water is 'physiological saline')
