Are western saddles a good idea for fjords and do they work the same way as normal saddles? The saddle I have for Indien is a saddle company 17" xx wide. What with a combination of having not ridden for quite a few years and him being wide, I am suffering. :( Someone suggested a western saddle, they thought not only might I be more comfortable but it may give me more confidence too?
Your help appreciated.

I have tried getting a treed western saddle for my cob, but the very large sizes are hard to get and a decent saddle will cost £600 up (the one we liked was £950)
Ive kept with my treeless as its the only thing that I can pretty much guarantee fitting. They can be quite wide, but seatsavers help give them a bit of twist.
Western saddles are perfect for confidence, I am a treeless one im selling that my dad has been learning to ride in, he has not moved once in it, he has loads of confidence (shame he is a bit cocky sometimes, lol), but unfortunately his bum was too big for it,lol.
Western saddles have western rigging and need a cinch, but you can buy converters so that they can be used with an english girth.
